Behind the base in the old village is a churech with a war memorial dedicated to the Polish pilots who escaped Poland and elsewhere to fight for this country; Lincolnshire was riddled with airbases using Polish air force personnel. On the A40 at Northolt is a massive memorial commemorating thos Poles who lost their lives. When I first got married, we moved just round the corner from an ex-Polish pilot who had regularly flown return flights between the Gold Coast and Cairo. We spent a long time listening to his stories; he and his wife called me the glow worm after watching me build a greenhouse at night under the light of a single bulb. Indeed, well said. It was also mentioned on GB News that 56,000 British airmen in Bomber Command died, the vast majority of them hadn't even reached their twenties. There is a Bomber Command memorial in Green Park to mark the sacrifice of 55,573 aircrew from Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Poland, Czechoslovakia and other allied countries.
Why should every scrap of land associated with WWII be retained as shrines?
A landmark deal has been agreed to unlock £300 million of investment in a hotel, new homes, shops, restaurants and bars at RAF Scampton.
Why is that more worthy than providing temporary accommodation for refugee/asylum seekers?

(Beyond which, it's a pretty tall order to present someone who chooses such a name for a dog as a "hero" - and yes, I realise full well that Guy Gibson was widely regarded as a self-serving martinet, but it's a movie's job to portray him as squeaky clean..). The screenplay (by Stephen Fry, Julian Fellowes, et al) for Peter Jackson's (aborted) remake sidesteps the issue entirely by simply omitting the dog altogether. |

I've seen this film before, a few times. However, this was the first time I switched it off, and I was quite angry. Woke wankers have edited the origional 1955 Dambusters, an iconic British film. Gibson's famous dog black person is now, Trigger. I'm not kidding, I could have punched someone. |
