A deep clean was on the card's for a long time......
End of the Met? Suella Braverman vows to do whatever it takes - including breaking up the Metropolitan Police into smaller forces - to sort out rogue cops ahead of release of damning report Baroness Casey's review of the failings in Met is due to be published tomorrow
The Home Secretary has hinted she will make it easier for chief constables to dismiss misogynistic, racist and corrupt police officers.
Suella Braverman vowed to change the police disciplinary process if a major report into the culture at Scotland Yard concludes it is required.
A source said that in the worst case scenario the Met – which has more than 40,000 officers and staff – was at risk of being split into smaller units if it is unable to follow recommendations in the report.
One of the key recommendations made by the review is that the elite parliamentary and diplomatic protection (PaDP) unit, where both Wayne Couzens, the killer of Sarah Everard, and serial rapist David Carrick worked, should be disbanded in its current form.
But the Home Secretary acknowledged it was still ‘very difficult’ for top brass to take action against problem officers within the ranks. Chief constables are powerless to sack officers whose jobs were spared by misconduct panels.
‘I’ve announced changes that we are going to make – or consult on at least for the moment – on the dismissals process,’ Ms Braverman said yesterday on a visit to Rwanda.
‘We’ve found that it is very difficult for a chief constable to dismiss an officer who falls short... If the law needs changing, I will do that.’ The Casey review was commissioned following Ms Everard’s murder and a string of scandals that ultimately led to the resignation of the Met’s former commissioner, Dame Cressida Dick.

Let’s hope the pendulum doesn’t swing too far. The police are useless enough as it is.

This is wonderful. A non sexist, non racist, right on police force that is in touch with its feelings.
Any chance of them catching a few villains while they are about it? No? Well, possibly that is asking a little too much.

I wonder how many coppers are going to be accused of ‘abuse’ from a spiteful wife who wants the kids and the house?

Woke imbecility and pedantry is not the cure for serial killers and rapists - in fact, it tends to destroy the healthy unofficial culture that acts as a screen against such people.

Is this the same "healthy unofficial culture" that includes chat groups sharing extreme racism and rape fantasies? There's nothing "woke" about saying such people shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the power of arrest. It's not exactly harmless banter that's being described in reports of what's going on in the Met', is it? Sergeant Eldest is adamant that this wouldn't be tolerated in South Yorkshire - it certainly seems that a lot of officers lose their warrant card over far less than is coming to light in London.

I’m sure that there are plenty of sergeants in the Met that thought the same .

I would have to see and judge for myself If you mean, 'telling jokes', then probably yes.

If you want to believe that, it's your right.
And remember that Wayne Couzens' colleagues failed on three separate occasions to follow up complaints of his exposing himself. The same colleagues who nicknamed him "the rapist".
Just a bit of harmless banter though, right?

The same colleagues who nicknamed him "the rapist". Just a bit of harmless banter though, right? You seem to be deliberately conflating things and desperately want to tack bits on where they really don't belong. Context is important - ie being at a party where he was pretending to be a stripper and undid his top trouser button while cavorting is completely different to getting his cock out while taking someone's name and address. They are both technically 'exposing yourself', but mean completely different things and vibrant unofficial cultures are very good at context - certainly far better than a list of very explicit and intricate rules (that themselves quickly become leverage for the unsavoury) There is no procedural replacement for an unofficial culture that can get people to buy in. From what i can see from the outside, what you have at the moment in the police is completely broken culture.

I'm "conflating" nothing.
The Couzens incidents and the culture that saw his colleagues ignore their seriousness are entirety germane to the Met' report being discussed here.
As ever, you have your fixed notion of how things "are", to you (I.e it's all just overreacting to a few harmless jokes and it's just what these lads do - no harm done.. "), and you won't accept anything to the contrary.
I suspect you'd be happy to see a return to pre Police & Criminal Evidence Act ways - no oversight, beating confessions out of suspects, and stations no women PCs felt safe in.

The soviet union had the 'highest' official standards for its citizens - you could start reading the official soviet list of things you could not do when you were 10 and you wouldn't be finished reading before you retired. You had better know t he rules somewhat or you could end up with problems. In the meantime, s ociety itself collapsed entirely, people stopped sharing their common sense, discernment and judgment, and those who could do nothing but exploit the baroque rules rose to the top. There was zero buy in - just automatic and punctual 'statements of conformity' and anyone with any moral sense kept their mouths shut. The leaders had broken society rather than let it form naturally in a shape they didn't find politically ideal. These people also hated jokes and thought they were the problem.
