Residents who failed to comply were swiftly punished: within minutes, around ten vehicles were loaded
on to lorries and towed away, past road blocks that now prevented access to either end of the street
The date was November 17, 2016. And the events unfolding on Rustlings Road, a residential street in south-west Sheffield, would dramatically escalate a hugely bitter dispute, turning the Yorkshire city — or rather, its Labour-run council — into a globally recognised symbol of incompetence, mendacity and tin-pot authoritarianism.
By the time Sheffield council came to its senses in March 2018, and abandoned the scheme,
around 5,600 trees had been removed, at a cost of tens of millions of pounds, while their
administration had become a global laughing stock. Pictured: After

Just another typical run Labour council, wasting tax payers money, then having to raise council tax and blaming the Tories, the cuts to most Labour run councils is staggering. They are closing libraries, leisure centers, youth centers, just about every service is being cut, then they try to convince us it' the Tories fault, they can't think of enough woke snowflake projects to waste tax payers money.

Oh, I see you already are. Plymouth City Council is trying to cut down trees in Armada Way for no good reason in the teeth of fierce local opposition which they are of course fascistically ignoring. But Plymouth City Council is Tory run. So Labour do not have any monopoly on the type of shit above.

Following the elections on 5 May 2022 there are: Conservative - 23. Labour - 25.
EDIT....Does the word minority mean anything....It has traditionally been controlled by Labour or the Conservatives. The council is currently in a state of no overall control, with the Conservatives governing as a minority administration.

You need to get your facts sorted before you post your usual shite. If you think Plymouth is Labour run you don't have a clue. It has been in the past and no doubt will be in the future but it is not right now.

An inquiry into allegations that the leader of Plymouth City Council breached the councillors' code of conduct cost the taxpayer more than £9,000, a Freedom of Information Request has revealed. Cllr Richard Bingley suffered the indignity earlier this month of being the first council leader in more than a decade to have had complaints about his conduct upheld by Emma Jackman, the council's monitoring officer and head of legal services. A number of complaints had been made in April this year in relation to a leaked recording made during a phone call between him and a member of the public, later identified as entrepreneur and former independent council-candidate Danny Bamping. Four Conservative councillors [Cllrs Terri Beer, Nick Kelly, Maddi Bridgeman and Dave Downie] and one Independent [Cllr Chaz Singh] alleged that the words spoken by Cllr Bingley breached the council's code of conduct. The investigation examined evidence including the recording itself along with excerpts from Twitter, interviews with each of the complainants and Cllr Bingley, a report from the independent investigator Melvin Kenyon, and the Local Government Association's guidance on standards as well www.plymouthherald.co.uk/news/plymouth-news/investigation-plymouth-council-chiefs-expletive-7877223

Nobody mentioned what the reason for the tree felling was about, well the reasons that apparently started the idea was apparently the levels of damage being done by the trees to pavements and roads.
It was part of a £2.2 bn. street improvement project. The trees removed would be replaced by saplings.
__"‘Streets Ahead’ contract 2012 The £2.2 billion ‘Streets Ahead’ Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contract was signed by Sheffield City Council (SCC), Amey plc and the Department for Transport. It was planned to be a 25 year contract between 20 August 2012 and 19 August 2037 for highway, pavement and street light renewal, and included the management of Sheffield’s highway trees. SCC indicated that up to 10,000 trees would be felled and replaced although wording in the PFI contract indicated a target of 17,500. SCC initially denied that 17,500 was an actual target, however, evidence from an SCC Cabinet Meeting found that in 2010 that SCC planned to remove and replant 17,500 trees as part of the PFI contract.
At the start of the PFI contract, Acorn Environmental Management Group (AEMG) were sub-contracted by Amey to re-survey Sheffield’s highway trees. A 2012 survey by Acorn stated that around 1,000 trees (dead, dying, diseased, dangerous) would be felled along with raising 6,300 other pruning and maintenance jobs. Steve Robinson, SCC’s Head of Highway Maintenance, stated in an interview by The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation that half of the city’s 36,000 highway trees would be felled and replaced with saplings.
The cancer in society is all those people who misinterpreted things as they seek to mislead.

Endless strikes, the small boats crisis and now the Lineker fiasco are proof that anti-Tory groupthink has taken control in Britain BBC News Channel’s bulletin yesterday was devoted to Gary Lineker coverage Alastair Campbell blamed everyone from Tories to the Daily Mail for UK's crises The first half hour of the BBC News Channel’s 10am bulletin yesterday was devoted to an orgy of incestuous wall-to-wall navel gazing over director-general Tim Davie’s craven capitulation to the sainted Gary Lineker. For further considered and balanced analysis, the airwaves were then given over to the corporation’s favourite independent commentator Alastair Campbell, who looked as if he had just crawled out of bed. Only in the warped world of BBC ‘impartiality’ would a discredited former Labour propagandist be deemed a fit and proper person to take a dispassionate view of a politically charged meltdown at a publicly funded institution, which began when Match Of The Day host Lineker compared the Conservatives’ policy on illegal migration to Nazi Germany. Over the next 15 minutes, virtually uninterrupted, Campbell went into his celebrated ‘Nutter on the Bus’ routine, blaming everyone from the Tories to the Daily Mail for the crisis which ended with a grovelling apology from the man who is supposed to run the BBC to a rogue presenter who knowingly and deliberately brought the game into disrepute. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11855843/Strikes-small-boats-Lineker-fiasco-Proof-anti-Tory-groupthink-taken-control-Britain.html

You need to get your facts sorted before you post your usual shite. If you think Plymouth is Labour run you don't have a clue. It has been in the past and no doubt will be in the future but it is not right now. There were as many labour members as there were conservative who went independent. And in may 2022 the green party won a seat for the first time ever, and we all know what side of the fence they sit...There are 8 independents in Plymouth...Was it the tories fault that the corruption in labour reduced labour ranks?
History Result of the council election when these seats were last contested in 2019 Result of the most recent council election in 2022
Plymouth City Council held local elections, along with councils across England as part of the 2022 local elections. The council elects its councillors in thirds, with a third of seats being up for election every year for three years, with no election each fourth year to correspond with councillors' four-year terms.[1][2] Councillors defending their seats in this election were previously elected in 2018. In that election, eleven Labour candidates and eight Conservative candidates were elected.
Elections in Plymouth are usually competitive between the Labour Party and the Conservative Party.[3] The council was controlled by the Labour Party from the 2018 council election until the 2021 council election, when the council entered no overall control, with no party holding a majority of seats. One Labour councillor elected in 2018—Kevin Neil—was suspended from his party in the same year.[4] Another councillor, Chaz Singh, left the Labour Party in 2019.[5] Several Conservative councillors left their group to sit as independents, including the former council leader Ian Bowyer, after two of them were suspended by the group leader Nick Kelly for publishing a press release supporting a reduction in the speed limit on the A38 road through the city.[6] Kelly was later suspended from his party after making comments about a local murder that were characterised as victim-blaming.[7][8] He was later reinstated.[9] Around the same time, other Conservative councillors left the group or were suspended.[10][11] After Kelly was unable to pass a budget in February 2022, Labour called a vote of no confidence in him.[12] Kelly lost, and the council selected a new leader, the Conservative councillor Richard Bingley, who had previously been a member of the Labour Party and the UK Independence Party.[13][14] Terri Beer resigned from the Conservative group to sit as an independent councillor in response to Bingley's election.[15]
