www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-64866058I only have one question Will this have the hand of that twat who told us all we’d die of covid before inviting his (married) mistress round for a romp on his shag pile while showing the symptoms on it, or not.

It is the usual guesswork and scaremongering based on models that are skewed to the beliefs of the input personnel. The rainfall records have been pretty consistent over the last hundred years or so and the flooding is much more likely to be how the land in the catchment areas is managed. All those new estates with hardstandings and run off replacing green fields and trees and water retention.

A few years ago the local tory activist who wants to be our next MP (hah ! Fat Chance !!) was ranting off about the flood risk around here.
He was putting the fear of god into all and sundry wittering about how the river flooded our road
I simply had to put the little shit down
I felt it necessary to say that on the day in question there was absolutely NO flooding despite wankers wanking off about the risk of it, the river failed miserably to come within six inches of the top of the bank.
And that since i had lived here the river had only burst that bank once, and the floodwater had all been contained within the flood plain still grass and mud which had been here in the 1930’s as the flower meadow on which the farmer at the time had grazed sheep and kept chickens
A flood plain HE had been most eager to see built on when an activist for the Lib Dems when i first moved here and objected to their plan for ‘social housing’ that would have increased the flood risk
I also pointed to his article in the local rag spewing fear and doubt which pointed to ‘increasing flood levels’ on the opposite bank as a result of unwise building programs
I posted a scan of a picture taken in the early 1930s.
It showed ‘the great flood’ of the year and the river water risen to flood some of the pasture of the farm on the far bank
A picture whose flood waters matched exactly the contours of his photo of the upcoming watery apocalypse
Fact is, i said, the floodwaters have risen not an inch, bot even a millimetre, higher than when they flooded over 85 years ago (this was a year or three back)
Which, i said, makes you singularly uninformed, or a compkete fearmonger. Which is it ??

I'm reminded of other predictions of impending eco disasters. In 1988 the eco lobby predicted that by 2018 the Maldives would be underwater. In 1989 they predicted rising sea levels would obliterate nations and New York City would be underwater by 2019. In 2008 we were warned the Arctic would completely free of ice by 2018, climate Genius Al Gore rubbished this insisting the Arctic would be ice free by 2013, five years sooner.
Why do some people insist on listening to eco crack pots?

In our area we had an area west of the town that every winter it would get flooded. Indeed up the road we have some sort of bird sanctuary due to the "wetlands". It's perfectly natural and provides habitats for rare species. The reason is some parts of the land are just above sea level. Naturally no one has ever built on them for this reason, but for about ten years ago where a developer said they could deal with this by using some sort of gravel on the ground to firm it up. You can hear them coming "We are We are the proless lardy dar dar - that looks like a nice house. "

On a plus note, it is widely predicted that London will be under water by 2100 due to the tilt and rising sea levels.

Becasue ecocrackpots now seem to be esconced in many positions of power and hav eno hesitation in peddling straightforward misinformation that gets everyone else into trouble notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpress.com/2023/03/08/met-office-peddle-extreme-rainfall-lies/Which concludes "All in all this is a thoroughly disgraceful and baseless piece of scaremongering, even by Met Office standards."

In s.e. Lincolnshire the maps show it as high flood risk. I can never recall any serious flooding in my 15 years of living there, just the occasional lewe lying field. The whole area is well dyked.
Up in the north of Lincolnshire where I now live there was firld flooding a couple of years ago due to poorly maintained ditches and dykes. When the opportunity came the dyke digging machines were out in force doing the maintenance work they had neglected for three or four years. The twats are now trimming hedgerows at a timer when birds are nest building.
