More Conservatism? ZG the conservative party have never been less Conservative. Do you think Thatcher would have allowed the illegal invasion to continue? That's the difference between centre right Conservatism and what passes for conservatism today. Illegal immigration is not the reason we are in such a shit state. Would Thatcher have allowed us to vote to leave the EU? I'm not sure what you mean by 'shit state'. If you elude to high energy costs which is fuelling the cost of living crisis then of course illegal immigration is not to blame, although it hardly helps. The reason economies are suffering at the moment is due to three things: 1. Putin 2. Net zero 3. The after effects of covid Which is why we are currently in a 'global' economic downturn. Or is because of Brexit?

A "shit state" is one where living standards fall, the rise in life expectancy rate falls, where people lay on a floor for an hour waiting for an ambulance, where the numbers of food banks and people using them has exploded.
A "shit state" is one where you routinely wait two or three weeks to see a doctor, and where the percentage of your income spent on rent and food continues to rise, but then to keep up, you are told you cannot have a pay rise in line with inflation.
Yes - things are pretty shit compared to how things were 13 years ago

I allude to 12 years of cutting public services, increasing waiting lists, roads with pot holes you can fish in, crappy wages, crappy production, food banks, dead economy. 12 years of austerity that didn't reduce debt but prepared us for 12 more years of the same. That shit state.

Yes - things are pretty shit compared to how things were 13 years ago Sidney, have you got Jamaican baccy in that pipe? FFS man, thanks largely to your hero president Blair the population of this country has increased by 8 million in the last 20 years that's the fastest population growth in this countries history, and thanks to cross channel illegals our population goes up on a daily basis. England overtook The Netherlands as the most densely populated country in Europe, in 2007. Now have a guess why schools are overcrowded, why you cant get a dentist, or GP's appointment, why roads are gridlocked, why we have a housing shortage, why we wait for 12 hours in A&E. FFS I wish you lefties would at least attempt to join the dots.

Not of course it could make them all rubbish at running a country.

My view is that Covid and Putin have made matters very bad, but the both only happened 9 years after the Tories took power. So they had 9 years to use austerity to get the country ready. 9 years of austerity that achieved nothing.

That shit state. Surely if you are in favour (like Thatcher) of remaining in the EU that means you would follow EU rules - rules which mandated the restricted spending that we saw from 2010. I would also just point out that all 3 major parties advocated significant spending reductions in their manifestos in 2010 - so who did you vote for if none of them?. Who was advocating the increases in spending that you voted for?

They're only affordable if the deposit is affordable. Affordable homes are up for purchase or rent. "Affordable housing, as defined by the National Planning Policy Framework, is housing for sale or rent for those whose needs are not met by the market. The provision of affordable housing is a key element of the Government’s plan to end the housing crisis, tackle homelessness and provide aspiring homeowners with a step onto the housing market." A deposit would itself be low because the house is deemed at an affordable level for people at the lower end of the housing market. I could solve the housing shortage at a stroke but the builders who lobby Parliament wouldn't like it.
