This video gives a few interesting graphs, like revenue from oil and gas. People used to say Thatcher was wonderful and revived the economy and so on, but if you look long-term over our prime ministers and parties that ruled, there is no correlation on our main economic indicators. What does correlate much better is the revenue from this energy which really ended up huge around the exact time the Thatcher recovery took place. The thing is it has been dropping ever since and worse to come are the big clean-up costs. These rigs are becoming uneconomic. I'm not sure how much that has to do with fixing the market with green market manipulation, or just the tap running dry. Probably a bit of both. There is also the balance of payments issue and how the oil production boosted the value of the pound and put British industry out of business in other sectors. Anyway, as usual this is very good analysis from Asianometry.

At the same time Joe Biden is edging ever closer to allowing a new oil field to open in Alaska that would supply almost 2% of the US's entire energy demand.
The UK meanwhile does nothing and talks about how windmills are going to save the planet..

Careful what you wish for, If you haven't just seen what they are all capable of, you might see windmills and a lot less people very shortly, after all they kept the country running once before with a lot less people.

It was missed opportunity at the time, but too late now. The oil has been taken by others, including the US who had their shit together faster than we did. How can you exploit oil resources when you are all on strike eh? This is how it was at the time during 79, about the time they should have had their arses in gear. They had the bone idle disease which seems to be reoccurring now. US is far more enthusiastic about opportunities that present themselves. Wind and solar energy is the new oil. We've fucked that too. China now leads the world in photovoltaic cells. If you did the calculations you would see the pair of technologies plus storage solutions would fix our energy supply and make it cheaper than oil and gas.
