I very much doubt they will be, maybe in some kind of fantasy, luckily the brightest people use many levels of communication, or not as the case might well end up.

The initial effect of the introduction of electric cars will be to increase CO2 - for the simple reason that the manufacture of their batteries requires a lot of energy and the generation of that energy produces roughly as much CO2 as a conventional car (in the UK) generates in travelling 30,000 miles. BEVs will only cut CO2 emissions when we can generate energy without emitting CO2. Until that time they make it worse.

BEVs will only cut CO2 emissions when we can generate energy without emitting CO2. Until that time they make it worse. And look at the ECO damage the mining of cobalt causes.
While driving an electric car has fewer environmental impacts than gasoline-powered cars, the production of the parts necessary for these green technologies can have dire effects on human well-being.
After studying the impacts of mining cobalt -- a common ingredient in lithium-ion batteries -- on communities in Africa's Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), an interdisciplinary team of researchers led by Northwestern University is calling for more data into how emerging technologies affect human health and livelihoods.
