This is absolutely ridiculous! Our legal system is an utter disgrace........People have hit and killed people and not even gone to jail. What a mess......This is an absolutely ridiculous decision. Ridiculous. The courts should be ashamed.

It's appalling and hopefully that judge is getting the sack for at least the false statements made in sentencing I can't even see how she was found guilty

Apologies, but unlike pretend Daily Mail staffers, I don’t see the connection between care home disquiet and cyclists ignoring the Highway Code…

I very much doubt that they will, and probably not even be questioned over this assault on a frargile pesrson who is in their care.

That is utterly ridiculous. Cycling on the pavement is an offence and it is quite reasonable for a pedestrian to tell a cyclist to get off the pavement.
How on Earth is the pedestrian then responsible for the cyclist falling off in front of a car?
It would of course be different if she'd pushed the cyclist in front of a car but that doesn't appear to be the allegation.
I pretty much assume that judges will be idiots these days but how on Earth did the CPS even charge that?

I disagree that our legal system is a disgrace, however I do think that the elderly lady should have not been cycling on the pavement unless their is a cycle lane marked out on the pavement, it is not allowed The elderly partially sighted pedestrian was probably worried and feared for her safety shouted at the cyclist who lost control and sadly was hit by a vehicle , however I am surprised given the circumstances that the CPS chose to charge her at all let alone with Manslaughter a sledge hammer to crack a walnut IMHO The sentence is far to harsh, you get less than that for carrying a knife,

We have eco zealots not being prosecuted for blocking our highways and byeways and people being prosecuted on the most flimsiest of wims.

I am normally cautious about commenting on court cases. However, in this case it appears that the whole incident was captured on CCTV.
And the case turns on whether the pedestrian's actions caused the cyclist to fall in front of the car.
It strikes me that there's two points here:
1) The cyclist clearly had to swerve around the pedestrian in any case, so where's the evidence that she didn't simply misjudge it? 2) And even if the cyclist did fall off because the pedestrian shouted, the pedestrian was entitled to be on the pavement and the cyclist wasn't. Therefore the pedestrian was entitled to shout out, especially if they thought that they were about to be hit by a cyclist.
For either scenario to be deemed manslaughter is absurd: Manslaughter requires Gross negligence or Unlawful act. Where are either of those in this scenario?

It's appalling and hopefully that judge is getting the sack for at least the false statements made in sentencing... Totally agree: "Shared path", my arse. There are absolutely no markings to indicate that. It's a footpath plain and simple and the judge should have directed a "Not Guilty" verdict.
