In a new wangle purportedly intended to attract the ‘brightest and the best’ the government has opened up a new migration channel specifically for the fellow tribal members of the Pime Minister and the Home Secretary. The Indian Young Professionals Visa Scheme opens this month offering the opportunity for 2,400 Indians aged from 18 to 30 to live and work in the UK. Successful applicants will be chosen by ballot.
The current plan is hold the ballot twice a year with next run in August but with the government reporting ‘extremely high volumes’ for the current round – the online system to handle applications was overwhelmed and broke down after less than 48 hours – the likelihood is that the system will be declared a roaring success and both the frequency of ballots and the numbers of visas handed out will be increased in the future. www.gov.uk/guidance/india-young-professionals-scheme-visa-ballot-system

After "British", the second most numerous nationality of Doctors in the UK is Indian
Doctors from India have been helping to keep our NHS going for over 60 years, and without them, the NHS would be in a very sorry state ( even worse than it already is ).
The Health Secretary who first brought large numbers of doctors from India was called Enoch Powell, and he did so because it was a remedy to a problem ... a shortage of doctors.
In this country we have a "Home Office Skills Shortage List"
At the top of that list are various types of doctors, scientists, persons qualified in computor skills, IT specialists and various types of engineers.
So whats the problem exactly ?

Why hasn't anyone thought of this ?
At the top of the skills shortage list are scientists, doctors and engineers
September 2023 University places ... those taking up courses in these skills will get up to 100% discount on Tuition Fees.
We are over-subscribed in this country with Psychologists, Sociologists, various Arts qualifications and Law qualifications.
September 2023 university places ... those courses in skills where too many people are chasing the vaccancies will be subject to a surcharge on top of the standard Tuition Fees.
(B) pays for (A) and people are encouraged to take courses where there are skills shortages, and discouraged from taking courses where there is a glut of available skills.

The highlighted qualifications are probably easier than those required in the medical world and the number of universities capable of teaching medical students is relatively small. Universities are available to too many students who are not even capable of serious learning and many are taking the sort of useless courses shown in the highlighted post.

The India Young Professionals Scheme does not select the lottery winners by occupation. Practitioners in Ayurvedic Medicine or those with 'Psychologists, Sociologists, various Arts qualifications and Law qualifications' stand just as much chance as 'various types of doctors, scientists, persons qualified in computor skills, IT specialists and various types of engineers'.

It's no surprise that if we install a PM "of Indian heritage" he'll let in more Indians - one way or another. This is only the beginning. No doubt when we try to make an FTA with India Sunak will give them even more visas. Opening the UK up to a country with a population of 1.4 billion - most of whom are dirt poor - is crazy.

I am afraid that with many professions, it is a Free Market, and thats why so many British trained health professionals are working in Australia, the United States, New zealand and other places.
The historical shortage of doctors is complex, partly because not enough British people wanted to be doctors; Not enough wanted to be GP's, some specialities are known as "Cinderella Specialities" with permanent shortages, such as Psychiatry. Another historical problem was locations, with many industrial areas only been able to attract the immigrant doctors, this was an issue in parts of Wales.
