Sheepy's link starts: A "national warning message" will be sent directly to every mobile phone across Britain later this month or in early March.
Before the alert is sent a publicity campaign will warn people to expect it and not to panic when they get it.
Officials say the test may be the only time a nationwide message is sent but it will demonstrate that the new system is capable of reaching every part of the country...
You get the drift. And yes, location data will be enabled which is why I refer to mobile phones as hand held trackers. That link is technically correct, the message will be sent to every mobile phone but not every mobile phone is capable of processing it so won't display it See the gov links posted above for detail on which phone types can (has to be not to ancient Android or iPhones) If the government feel the need to contact me, they have my address and (Land line) number. If they expect me to carry a hand held tracker for their convenience, then they can provide it, at their expense.

I'm sure the sight of your lesser stable neighbours running around like headless chickens will give you a clue

I was just listening to a discussion on GB News in which some chap who was introduced as a 'defence analyst', which could mean anything, said people's social media accounts should be monitored to ensure unsuitable people are not issued with shotgun licences. This is in the wake of the Epsom murder/suicide tragedy and I'm sure on the face of it sounds perfectly reasonable. Until you think about it for more than a few seconds.
OK this doesn't include me so why should I give a damn. Well I do, because I think people, or the vast majority of people have no idea to the extent they are currently being monitored, and the surveillance society is becoming more and more sophisticated by the day. Thing is, the police, security services and other agencies, don't really have to get off their arses and do any detective work. People who insist on carrying hand held trackers and putting their life on social media are dong all the leg work, if only they could see it.

You get the drift. And yes, location data will be enabled which is why I refer to mobile phones as hand held trackers. You can disable location data, but there's so many apps that insist on it being enabled for their app that having it disabled limits the phone. There are a number of warning messages that can be sent on mobile, like weather warnings, earthquakes, and even those evil lockdown notifications. TBH, you're better off without one if you only want to make/recieve calls and text messages. There was an earthquake in south wales at a minute or two past midnight yesterday. When i looked at my two phones one iphone the other android, both said earthquake warnings were unavailable in my area…
