As far as I can see, Labour's real problem was that it took Scotland for granted, which is not something Sir Stodge is inclined to do. It has to be said that he is not the most exciting of politicians, but he keeps his eye on the ball and with the Nats on the back foot, he must have some bung in mind.
But what?

I think that if he presented a plan to address the failings of the SNP in education, health, welfare. transportation, life expectancy, drug deaths, drink deaths and the absurdities of the woke bilge, he would wipe the floor with the SNP, we might find this very satisfying and richly deserved, but it might not be that joyous for the rest of us.
At the moment there are about 45 or so horrid SNP MPs huddled in a corner of the House of Commons, they grumble and snarl at people, but really, apart from laughing at the way they speak, they can be ignored and left to their own miseries. However if these were 45 or so Labour MPs then our equilibrium would be tilted and this would be a danger to our wellbeing.
So the wretched people in Scotland would be grateful to Starmer if he used the extra Barnett money to improve their lives ( instead of not recollecting which of their offshore accounts benefitted from English largesse), there is always the possibility that they might vote Tory of course, Mr Ross seems a decent sort of chap who would fix the potholes quite well I'm sure.
The main source of joy is that Independence is finished, Sturgeon is finished with Police investigations to follow, and the SNP is a laughing stock throughout Europe, so not a bad week all in all.

What makes you think "Independence is finished"? The Independence movement is much more than the SNP or Sturgeon. Many YESers are not in the SNP. Many, like me, left the party because she was not showing any desire to push on with the campaign for Independence. I completed a Survation poll today, on Scottish politics. One day after the resignation, it'll be interesting to see how the interviewees view the Independence option and how support for the SNP fares because of her going. What makes you think that "the SNP is a laughing stock throughout Europe"? I think you'll find it is the UK that is held in contempt. The rest of your diatribe is pure bullshit - par for the course. "laughing at the way they speak"? what a crass thing to say. What accent do you talk with? What makes you think it is superior to any Scottish MP's accent.

But what?
Can labour profit from Sturgeons resignation in scotland? The short answer according to polling guru sir john curtice? No

Its the usual stuff regarding polls moray. We get an outlier either way , and either side is jumping about with joy crying independence is finished, or the union is finished.
As you say , the long term trend is what matters , not outliers like the ashcroft poll.
Borkie gets his news about scotland from the chattering classes in london , most of whom have never been north of the watford gap , and the few that have have been grouse shooting on the cairngorms away from the locals.
Most of the english believe scottish independence is some evil plot the snp wish to impose on the scottish population against our will , and that we cant think for ourselves. That approx 50 % independence voting block isnt going anywhere , as we both well know.

No Tommy, most English don't give a shit about Scotland and would happily give it back to Sean Connery and the EU. If the Nats had any sense they would set up offices in England and Wales and start trying to win hearts and minds for their cause. But they don't. It is a lot easier to sit at home whining that the sun rose twice a day in Scotland before Edward Longshanks marched north and buggered granny's cat.
I don't trust Scottish polls, which seem to publish whatever rubbish will fill the gaps between the football results, but I do feel that little Nicky realised that Indyref2 would not run and that it was time to get out while the getting out was good. Her second in command, John Swinney has said that he does not want the job, so it looks like handbags at dawn until the SNP beanfest in March. Meanwhile, in further evidence that the Almighty likes a laugh, the Scottish brothers and sisters will be having their spring bop this weekend, so we can expect some dour, but interesting comments from Sir Stodge.

Dead right you're going nowhere, you can blame Sturgeon for that, as I mentioned elsewhere, Sturgeon with her dishonesty, incompetence and frightening hostility was the guarantee of the continuation of the Union.
Let's see who the cult come up with next, they seem to have purged the party of those with normal attitudes and crammed it with ponces, nonces, transvestites and paedophiles, let's see what we have next up.
But, you are right, you really aren't going anywhere.

so you keep telling us borkie , but it was interesting when question time was held in England the other night , fiona bruce asked the english audience to put their hands up if they supported (scot indy) , nicola sturgeon and the snp and no one did.
So much for all this give the english a vote and it will be a landslide for scot indy.
Tory voting area as well.!!!

Totally agree.
Scottish independence is an idea that is above the cult of any one personality . You dont quite understand or get that though do you om?

Slammer says path to Labour victory 'must run through Scotland' in pitch to SNP voters Slammer has urged Scottish voters to put their faith in his party saying the path to an election victory for Labour "must run through Scotland". Slammer said the path to a Labour victory "must run through Scotland" as he urged SNP voters to put their faith in his party in the wake of Wee kranky's resignation. Delivering a keynote speech at the Scottish Labour conference in Edinburgh, the Opposition leader also ruled out a deal with whoever succeeds the outgoing first minister in order to win a majority at the next general election. "I want to be prime minister for the UK, not just prime minister of the UK and that's why I've always said the path to a Labour victory must run through Scotland," he told members. Scotland was considered a Labour stronghold before the rise of the SNP.
