From our essential services, energy supplies to our NHS. I can see no advatages whatsoever.
British Gas owner's profits soar to £3.3BILLION from £948mmillion the year before as millions suffer with soaring energy bills during the cost-of-living crisis Chief executive Chris O'Shea set for salary and bonus bonanza of up to £4.26m

If Tony Blair had his way Centrica would have been Russian owned ..
"In January 2006, it was rumoured that the Russian state-owned utility company Gazprom was seeking a takeover of Centrica. This created controversy in the media, while the Department for Trade and Industry stated any deal would be subject to "intense scrutiny". Tony Blair announced in April that he would not block any potential deal".
I think we are beginning to realise why Tony Blair's personal wealth is now worth well over £60 million (that we know of) his son Euan Blair now acts as his go-between for dodgy deals. Blair would have been on for a right good bung from the Russians' had that deal gone through, he would have sold us down the river if it made him money.
That man was out to destroy this country.

Many of our energy companies etc are now under foreiign ownership because their own respective countries have a profit cap and are overseen by a robust watchdog rather than a bloody toothless poodle. I bet these foreign companies couldn't beleive their luck when they were allowed to snap up our energy companies..

Centrica's profits are all coming out of the pockets of the ordinary people, many of them pensioners struggling to make ends meet. Covid - the poor get poorer and the rich get richer. Energy Crisis -the poor get poorer and the rich get richer. Bring on the next crisis for the sake of the idle rich!

Given the present state of every Government run department and service I'm struggling to imagine a scenario where a Government run oil exploration company would make any profit at all - let alone £3 billion.. just imagine if Centrica were run as efficiently as the NHS...

Thats the first thing you have said that makes sense,no vital utilities should be anywhere near private hands.

I have to laugh, many people who now moan about this are the same people who voted for Thatcher and every other Tory Government since, then when we get someone like Corbyn who would have brought these Companies back under State control the same people slag the guy off and work to bring him down, sorry but they asked for what they have got.

In total, approximately £12.7 billion is borrowed, with repayments reaching over £80 billion. Even when fully repaid, the public won’t own the hospitals. PFIs enable a covert bed closure program to shrink NHS capacity, and a future land grab. As the costs of paying off debts rise, NHS trusts will be forced to sell assets. Letwin becomes a Conservative MP.
2000 New Labour’s NHS Plan introduces private provision of medical services into the NHS for the first time to ‘modernise’ and ‘reform’ its practices. Routine planned surgery, diagnostic tests and procedures are contracted out to private sector treatment centres at greater cost than the same care on the NHS.
2003 New Labour allows NHS trusts to apply to become Foundation Trusts (FTs), arms-length business entities independent of government control. This further embeds commercial priorities and leadership into the system.
2004 New Labour brings in Payment by Results. Providers are paid a fixed price per unit of completed health care. This helps the private sector to cherry-pick the easiest, most profitable treatments.
2009 Gordon Brown (New Labour) brings in the Unsustainable Provider Regime, the framework for using the PFI hospital debt burden to close and sell off publicly-owned NHS land and property.
Sorry Sword, what was that you were saying? LOL

In reality the North Sea gas has saved us. How they are run is a secondary point, but having that energy independence means we will do better than places like Germany.
If you want a grown up view on what is going on I highly recommend Sean Foo. Today he has a report on the German economy.

The thing is sword you know where you stand with the Tories, Labour trying to get in to power by pretending to be something they are not, I bet if you asked for a show of hands in the Labour party ...'How many Labour MPs have shares or interests in privatised utilities'.... I can guarantee you if they were honest there wouldn't be many hands not in the air.
Haven't you noticed how quiet Labour are on fuel poverty, I would imagine they are rubbing their grubby little hands at those sorts of profits.
