Question: Why is the UK economy doing worse than the rest of the G7? Wrong Answer: The UK economy is not doing worse than the rest of the G7. The UK posts the highest growth rate. So if growth rates don't matter why did you start a thread complaining about forecasts of low growth rates?

So if growth rates don't matter why did you start a thread complaining about forecasts of low growth rates? Growth rates do not matter as far as this thread is concerned. What matters is the size of the economy. The UK could have a growth rate of 125,000% but compared with the rest of the G7 economy, the size of the UK economy is still the only one that has not reached its pre-pandemic level. Again: it's not the growth rate that is being compared. It's the size of the economy. Size.

Because the other countries have already grown, you numpty. The UK has still not reached its pre covid level while the others have and are growing on top of it. I can't do this anymore The convoluted ignorance in here makes intelligent conversation impossible. Bugger off to some football match...and match the upper level of your capacity to discuss reality. Not forgetting of course that most UK teams are owned and controlled by foreigners. So much for sovereignty. You just have to laugh at the self-delusion that the UK economy is not doing worse than the rest of the G7 because the UK growth rate high is highest. Never mind that the UK's economy is the only economy in the G7 that has not reached pre-pandemic level -- as long as our growth rate is high, everything is good, we're not doing worse. This post is the product of twisted thinking. Having been shown the UK is holding its own gnome derides it as self-delusion. Why would one laugh at their own mental contortions?

The match, as it were, is between pre-pandemic UK and post-pandemic UK. Not between the UK and Germany or France. So, my question is, the UK is holding its own against whom? It is self-delusional to tell yourself that everything is well because "the UK is holding its own" when in actual fact it is doing worse than its pre-pandemic self and than the rest of the G7. And when you keep doing it in order to excuse and defend the very thing that's causing damage, then your self-delusion deserves all the derision it gets.

You started this thread claiming it was a disaster that the UK was forecast to be the slowest growing economy in 2023 - either growth rates matter or they dont. Well said.

For instance while the UK took the ridiculous decision to shut down much of the economy and pay people to sit at home doing nothing much of the US kept going as normal. Now we are suffering from a culture where people have got used to not working and the State paying them to do f*ck all. Hence we are coming back from a very low point - even being the fastest growing economy in the G7 is not enough.

Fine, so that's your answer to the question why the UK economy is doing worse than the rest of G7. Simple. Sorted. You're back on track. You've even created another talking point. Well done. There was no need to refute or deny the fact with a chart showing that the UK's growth rate is the highest in G7 and then go on and on and on about it.
