More than 150 police officers from the UK’s biggest force are being prevented from holding public-facing roles because they are under investigation over allegations of sexual misconduct or racism.The figure – released by the Metropolitan police to the Guardian under the Freedom of Information Act – represents a doubling of the numbers as the force faces unprecedented pressure to tackle such deep-rooted problems. You do understand that a government is not responsible for micro-managing the entire public sector right?
The Chief Constable / Commissioner is responsible for the day to running, these people and the ranks below them should be facing criminal charges for turning a blind eye.
There is no politician telling the police to cover up rapists in their ranks ffs.
That being said, the politicians could increase salaries so they get a better standard of candidate, and increase budgets so better vetting and monitoring can take place.

Well you say that... Except that the government sets police pay. And the Home Office sets police policy, and doubtless unofficial quotas, all of which do impact on the people that can be recruited and the way that policing is conducted.
The government has fucked up policing and now complains that policing is fucked up.
A case of society getting the policing it deserves.
