Pensioner, 87, died from hypothermia after saying she couldn't afford to heat her home. An elderly woman who said she couldn't afford heating in her home died after developing hypothermia, an inquest has heard. Barbara Bolton, 87, was admitted to Fairfield Hospital on December 11 last year with the condition, as well as a chest infection, but tragically died on January 5 after a decision was made with her family to place her on end of life care. Hospital notes reportedly indicate her illness was linked to the fact she could not afford to put her heating on. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11676661/Pensioner-87-died-hypothermia-telling-doctor-afford-heat-home.html And in other news: The illegal immigrant hotel bill is currently costing the UK government £7 million a day. The government has committed at least £2.3 billion in aid to Ukraine this year, and the overseas aid budget is c£12 billion. Something has gone very wrong. We desperately need a government who puts British people first.

A very sad state of affairs, sad cases such as this have happened for years not that it is acceptable as the State Pension is not enough to live on , and the lack of care for the elderly vulnerable and infirm has never been good enough for years no matter which Government has been in power, we are living longer these days as well.

The government have got their priorities very wrong. They should prioritise people who have spent a lifetime paying into the system, not people who have absolutely no right to be in this country, or people in other countries.

I agree I have paid into the system for years and still paying tax after I retired after a life time of working

It is only going to get worse from now on with the price of energy, plus the cost of living rises. Who would have thought that in the UK our elderly would be in the dilema of ether starving or freezing to death?

I’m waiting for the self haters who demonise old people to ask if she had a house and why she didn’t take equity release , if she did have one.

People, pensioners, forced to give up their home to pay for care home costs is something that really gets me annoyed. I know that's not what you mentioned, but it reminded me of it. Why should someone struggle to pay a mortgage for years, then in later life have to hand their home to the state and be moved into a care home where most people get free care because rather than struggle to buy a property, they pissed it up the wall. Current government policy gives young people absolutely no incentive to save and invest in their own futures.

Probably because they have convinced them they don't have a future unless they do just as they are told and vote the way they are told, just letting you know people have your back as usual Red.

Current government policy gives young people absolutely no incentive to save and invest in their own futures. The lack of Care for the elderly was one of the first things Boris addressed the House on when he became PM, he rightly considered the fact as you stated why in their latter years having worked saved gone without to buy their own home and save money for their old age, that they have to use their savings or sell their house to pay for care if ill and infirm. As you rightly state if they had not worked hard, not saved any money, and not bought their own home , they would get everything for nothing they would be able to claim some benefits and probably a state pension and if need be Care Home Fees paid by the taxpayers

Can't argue much with that. I'd just add that the energy companies made massive profits on the backs of ordinary people, which the government are creaming off, amounting to an extra indirect tax take from the most vulnerable, whilst paying us an extra £400 for the inconvenience of being scammed by officialdom. Oh, and have they removed the green energy surcharge yet?

Owned by the French, not nationalised by the French. I agree strategically important utility companies who provide services people need to sustain everyday life should be owned by the government, if the government do flog em off they should legislate to ensure they can only be bought by British companies, which is what other countries have done. Our water companies have been bought & flogged by loads of different foreign companies from all over the world who were in the market to make a fast buck, and boy did they.
