Why do people always use the silly phrase "governed by Brussels" ? The people who govern the EU are The Governments and The People of the EU, individual member states, individual leaders and ministers, the elected members of the European Parliament, the Commissioners who are appointed by the governments on an equal basis (one per member state ) and the different Councils of elected ministers. Its called A Collective, its shared sovereignty, its a club of equals who agree to the rules together. We have to co-operate and work with our neighbours, we are Europeans whether we like it or not, and we are allies tied by history and by the same values. It's all part of the dumbing down of political discourse. Sound bite phrases to rile the masses. So much easier and more effective than trying to understand the workings of the EU.

I was under the impression that many people think that we will have to privatise the NHS and eat chlorinated chicken if we had a trade agreement with the US. A real possibility without the leverage of the largest trade block behind us. It's the difference between being the junior partner in negotiations and being in an equal partnership with the US. Ceding control from Brussels to Washington.

Why do people always use the silly phrase "governed by Brussels" ? Because the apparatus of power is based in Brussels. There was nothing that a UK government could do that was not approved of by those in Brussels. Westminster had become a regional tier of government.

we are Europeans whether we like it or not, and we are allies tied by history and by the same values. That's an interesting take on our history. Do you share the same values as Russia? They are our historical allies in Europe.

The USA dropped it's ban on UK and EU mutton in January. A month after they dropped same ban on the EU As Red's link shows it wasn't until the last weeks that any UK lamb moved.

Except for issues like criminal laws, sentencing, income tax, speed limits, education policy and delivery, health services, armed forces funding, who we have military alliances with, who we go to war with, control of the media, who can vote, when we have elections etc etc etc IE the EU in the big picture controlled niff naff and trivia and much of that we had vetoes over but to some obsessives they'd rather have 100% control over how they sink into economic doldrums then succeed by fair partnership with other nations.

To be fair monty the dumbing down of political discourse goes back to Tony blair , and his empty soundbite phrases. Brexiters have just carried on where new labour left off when in power.
I cant believe anyone doesnt understand the basics of the workings of the EU by now FFS. We in scotland even had the wee bleu book for reference.

Have you seen the price of lamb we have to pay lately? It wouldn't have been believable if we were still in the E.U. Morgan, you may think being governed from Belgium is a price worth paying for cheaper Lamb. Like the majority of people, I do not.

EU law, which is proposed by an unelected cabal of anonymous bureaucrats before being rubber stamped by a toothless parliament with no real power, overrules national laws in EU states. It's called 'The Primacy of EU Law'. If conflict arises between EU law and national law, then national law must be set aside. That is EU law. Any country who's laws can be overruled by another country state or union, is quite obviously not a sovereign country. This is why EU states are governed from Brussels. Here to help.

Only in very limited areas.

Only in very limited areas. Well it doesn't really matter how you dress it up or attempt to hide or diminish it, the fact remains, whenever conflict occurs between EU law and the law of member states, EU law is supreme and national law is set aside.
