They own it, they can do what they like with it, I am not so sure they have changed the image of the mini enough that it will be so successful made anywhere else but the UK though. It isn't just the name but what it represented, they even had to build it into the rear lights.

Be interesting to see how they will make it somehow fit the global corporate image when it is no longer built where everything that has made it a success is based. The shell might be there but the heart will have stopped beating.

Yep. I remember Ford blaming Brexit when they moved production to Turkey which, last I checked, isn't in the EU either. Turkey is in a customs union with the EU — Ford obviously saw how things were likely to go with the UK…

The suspension was horrible, the motor was pathetic and it was totally cramped. I could never understand why people bought them and assumed it was that it was the poor man's car.

Which strongly suggests that they would done the same regardless of EU/Customs union membership. But the additional effort required from companies operating from the UK once the implications of Brexit became known wouldn't have helped to keep activities in the UK.
Today, the company employs about 42,000 people in Europe and maintains a manufacturing presence in the United Kingdom, Germany, Turkey, Spain, Romania and Russia at 10 wholly-owned plants and four unconsolidated joint-venture facilities, according to Ford.
Already, most of Ford's plants in Europe are earmarked for EV investments. It has announced plans, for example, to convert a transmission plant in the U.K. into an electric power unit operation, build EVs in Cologne, assemble electric commercial vans at a plant in Turkey and build a new light commercial vehicle, including an electrified version, at a plant in Romania.

So they still have operations in the UK.
So the decision to move some parts to Turkey is not Brexit related.

It is strange that Turkey is in a customs union with the EU though without FOM?

The shell might be there but the heart will have stopped beating. This is everything that made it successful. I'll quote its wiki page as it is very short:
Like the mini, it too no longer exists. All we have are memories and brand names.
When you talk about success, you have to realise Britain has made many firms unsuccessful.
The Aston Martin though is still a going concern and so is Eon studios.

It is odd. I guess the EU didn't want to give visa free travel to £80 million Turks. But then again they did open talks with Turkey to become a full member of the EU - which have stalled.
