A statue of Victor Hugo famous for 'The Hunchback of Notre-Dame' and 'Les Misérables' that stood in his hometown of Besançon in France was removed and refurbished. When it reappeared Victor had somehow changed from a white man, to a black man, and was then 'vandalised' by a couple of young men who painted the statues face white.
It seems that because the sculptor of the statue a chap named Ousmane Sow who created the statue in 1903 was a black man, the council in Besançon decided to change Victor Hugo from white, to black. In recognition of the sculptor. And we think UK councils are the champions of woke.
