Emmanuel Macron has reintroduced mandatory national service for all teenagers in France.
It's not exactly what you may imagine 'national service' to be. It's not joining the army, it's more civil than military service. There's a lot of info in the link, but essentially it's for 15 to 17 year old kids and for just four weeks. It's supposed to instil a sense of purpose and pride in being French, and there's nothing wrong with that. But with the best will in the world I have to ask, what on earth does Macron think the government are going to teach kids in just four weeks. It's nonsense. And critics are keen to point out it will cost €3 billion a year for no obvious benefit. www.express.co.uk/news/world/1717404/emmanuel-macron-france-mandatory-civil-service-national-teenagers
