You know, if Britain had not been such a racist and discriminatory place from the start of large scale immigration, late 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, then such targets would never have existed. What "positive discrimination" does, is put right a wrong, an inbalance, like for example a time not that long ago when there were no MPs or judges from minority groups, virtually no police officers, lawyers or famous or prominent people from minorities. Thankfully our NHS has a very large proportion of professionals of Commonwealth origin, particularly from the Indian sub continent, many are now third and fourth genereation British, and if it were not for these doctors within our NHS, it would quite simply colapse - thank goodness for them, and thank goodness they came here. Or there could of been more opportunities for working class children to access better education and inclusion. That might have produced more working class doctors ,Lawyers and famous and prominent people. Or is this just another attempt to rewrite history and squeeze in the white privilege lie a few decades further back .

I do not see the problem. In 1987 4 black MPs were elected from a demographic subset of the population of about 1%. In fact if you look at the number of white ethnic Englishmen in 1987 it will be far less proportionally represented as many seats were held by Welsh and Scottish candidates in England. There is always the question of how do you consider Jews. They are way over represented in parliament. Do we deselect Jews to place white ethnic Englishmen in? Once you go down the road of ethnic and identity consideration there is a very big risk of disappearing into a very dark place.

Splendid news.
Now put a stop to gender reassignment surgery, and other cosmetic procedures.
These are personal non life threatening treatments that are a complete waste of NHS cash.
Then we have the cosmetic tourists who go to Turkey to get teeth whiting, or the fat removed from their big arses or bellies. or boob jobs, it all goes tits up and they dash back home (if they are lucky to live) and expect the NHS to put it right.
FFS is it any wonder the NHS is always broke.

And they put that badge on and set those aggressive diversity targets. I just find it funny that Jonksy doesn't really realise it's his heroes that he needs to rail against I still am perplexed why you don’t support a robust attempt to improve diversity . No matter who attempts it . How long you got? I refer you to previous posts I've made that positive discrimination is usually a step way too far, that diversity itself is a good thing and that driving for 'the best' is often at the expense of 'good'.

I suspect the suspension of racial and gender priorities has more to do with the pool of job seekers being so much smaller. The NHS can't afford to be choosy.

Way back in the sixties nearly every ambulance driver in my districe was gay and even the women who drove the hospitality pick-ups were mainly lesbian. Almost without exception all hospital porters at the Royal Free in Hampstead were gay. It was said that gay doctors "Finished their training at the Royal Free". The psychiatric wards there had a noticeable number of gays and lesbians on the staff. Hampstead at the time was said to be "The gay watering-hole of planet Earth". Another profession where gays and lesbians were commonplace was the Probation service. In the early 70s I was put on probation after being caught shoplifting in Bristol. My probation officer was gay. I said to him at one of our meetings: "I find you an interesting example of Homo probationarious". He burst out laughing and from then onwards was very helpful.
