More than 75,000 'illegal' migrants have arrived in the UK after crossing the Channel since current records began four years ago, figures show. Some 75,628 people have made the journey since 2018, according to PA news agency analysis of Government data. www.times-series.co.uk/news/national/23044857.number-migrants-crossing-channel-uk-since-2018-tops-75-000/And lets not forget these figures are for 'known' migrants. No one knows how many are already slaving away in the black economy or how many are still entering this country in lorries & containers etc. So the fig of 75,000 is at best, an absolute minimum. If anyone had predicted this colossal cock up 20 years ago, the left would have shouted them down as dangerous far right extremists and demanded their arrest. As the great man Enoch Powell said; We must be mad, literally mad.

And that's what we know of, you can treble that figure for those who have come via different illegal routes.

Can you imagine what the French/EU reaction would be if 75,000+ immigrants from England landed on a French beach...
...Macron and the EU would demand the ECtHR take action against the British government for not policing their own borders, French farmers would bring Paris to a standstill with their tractors and fishermen would blockade ports. The British government would immediately acquiesce and pay the EU/French government £billions in compensation before deploying the Navy and army to patrol south coast beaches to stop immigrants putting to sea in dinghies.
How far from the truth is that? Not far I'll wager.

All the people that have left France for here have by definition entered France from somewhere along with the far bigger number that have accessed France and claimed asylum there.
No wobblers thrown.

Indeed they have entered France illegally, travelled across France illegally and yet still manage to arrive on the Channel shores in their thousands.

I understand that the common wisdom is that the French do nothing to obstruct the stream of illegal migrants taking to the dinghys, but perhaps the following piece of anecdotal reportage may cause some more-open minded readers to consider that this wisdom, as propagated by Nige and the Daily Mexpress, may not reflect 100% of the reality on the ground.
Yesterday afternoon I drove someone to a small airport in the south of France to catch a flight to the UK. Now this airport is a fairly sleepy affair, with perhaps fewer than ten flights a day, including departures to Manchester and Stansted.
On arriving we were quite astonished to see the airport effectively occupied by gendarmes, twenty or so of them, with the short-term car-park closed and all arriving cars having to go through a sort of chicane. We were asked what we were doing there and also for personal ID as well as the car registration.
This was such an usual experience that we asked the lieutenant who was in charge what was going on. He replied that smuggling gangs had been using the airport to transport Iranians to the UK and they were hoping to catch them in the act.
So there may be a lot more going on behind the scenes than the so-called experts will be aware of.
