A proposed law to give terminally ill people in England and Wales the right to choose to end their life has been published. MPs will vote on the bill for the first time on 29 November.
A separate bill is under discussion in Scotland.
The proposals would have to be approved by MPs and peers before becoming law. The first debate and vote will be in the House of Commons on Friday 29 November.
At present, laws throughout the UK prevent people from asking for medical help to die.
I've read the proposals and the safeguards, but I still don't know how I would vote if I was an MP, or this was ever to become a referendum.
Until now I'd comforted myself with the thought that the medical profession's first aim was to keep patients comfortable and free of pain. I'd accepted that medication (or other treatment) to achieve that aim might eventually cause death. Was I (am I) wrong...?

I suspect that this will mirror the abortion laws and will become easier and easier to do over time . It’s not an easy issue and society isn’t constrained by the belief that life is sacred and we all have an immortal soul that will be damned if we offend God . Old people will be pressed to give permission to kill them and the criteria for assisted death will become looser and looser imo.

Yeah, if poor old Aunt Agatha takes too long to snuff it, and they are all waiting to inherit her estate before Labour grab it, poor old Aunt Agatha could find her inheritors assist in demise.

How the fuck would she have serve injuries to her neck? Was she dead before she went in to it?

Treading on dangerous ground, that's why it's always been controversial, insurance companies refused to pay out on suicides, I can see them going down the same route with assisted dying, grey area, I'd steer well clear of it.

The Isle of Man Government is on its second reading , Jersey is drafting their decision to proceed to Law.
Westminster MP's will be allowed a free vote on the Bill
Personally I think people who are in severe constant pain even with strong medication and no chance of any recovery should be able to end their lives with some sort of dignity.
As I understand it they have to be mentally alert to make their decision see two Doctors , family members or friends cannot make the decision for them , if at the end of the day they do decide to end their life, UK Doctors will not take part in administering the drugs to end their life

The shit will hit the fan (which wont be long) when 'wealthy' old Aunt Agatha was 'put to death', old Aunt Agatha Alzheimer's will be blamed why she chose assisted dying, and that will leave it Wide open who wanted to bump off 'wealthy' Aunt Agatha, the law will be involved, the insurance companies will be involved, the assisted 'killing machine' will be involved ... FFS.. who could be arsed with that legal web ^^

Mystic Bentley says that within 5 years of the bill being passed the criteria include ( if it isn’t now) to chronic depression and degenerative diseases such as MS.

It will open a whole can of worms.
No one will want to touch.
Good Luck with that one.

Imo it won’t be long before it’s quite acceptable to collude with doctors to kill granny off

Imo it won’t be long before it’s quite acceptable to collude with doctors to kill granny off I'm sure if the doctors sign on the 'dotted line' and it's lucrative for them, they'll sign anything put before them.
