I always rather liked him, not many politicians you can say that about, he was a deep thinker and always had Scotland at his heart of the matter, the SNP was a much worse place without him once the greed filled advantage taking crew took over. the Westminster party will be quietly celebrating he was definitely a man with a cause.

I dont think anyone in uk politics comes close , never mind the low bar in Scottish politics .We have lost a titan , and have a muppet called swinney in his place instead. His knowledge intellect and wit , not to mention his political nous is irreplaceable. He was one of the few politicians who actually made me take an interest in politics . its making me physically sick listening to the outpouring of fake grief from snp past and present politicians who stabbed the man repeatedly in the back. Totally agree T. Alex Salmond, who was kicked out of the SNP, came back into the party to be voted leader on two occasions. In his second stint, he engineered that breakthrough win in 2007. He went on to lead the Party to an overall majority in 2011, and gave us the chance to vote on our constitutional future in 2014. Given what followed, I reckon that he was wrong to resign. On Brexit, he would have made a helluva lot more about the 62%-38% Remain win, than Sturgeon did. At one point she had us believing that another referendum was imminent, but, shamefully, backed down. Salmond would never have done that! Cameron was like putty in Alex's hands as the PM accepted the need for the people of Scotland to decide. Unfortunately the wrong decision was made. But he, and the wider YES movement, scared the shit out of the Unionists in the last few weeks of the campaign. We have to hope that one of the younger Nationalists will come through and take the SNP back on track re. Independence. Certainly none of the present leadership provide much hope. All seem wedded to running Devolution, rather than fighting for the goal the Party was set up to achieve Spot on with everything you have said. I dont think since 2014 I have ever been so disillusioned with politics as I am just now. You look at both Holyrood , and Westminster , and it's hard to find anyone worthy of respect . The current snp are a waste of space. I think most folk are still in shock about Alec salmonds sudden death , and it's going to take a few days to come to terms with it. Regarding Alec resigning after the indy ref , I think I mind him saying himself that had he known what would happen going forward , regarding sturgeons behaviour and the open goals she missed , he would never have resigned. Thats the hard luck story though that seems to crop up in our history constantly.

I still say abolish devolution.
Salmond wouldn't have wanted it scrapping, but it needs to be. Turn the SNPee back into the irrelevant fringe party it started as before Labour empowered them. And consign SNATism to the dustbin of history.
Affable man or not, Salmond was wrong.

What are you talking about? the snp past and present all my life has been split between those who want devolution scrapped , which is what independence is all about , and the devolutionists like swinney.

was good to see a decent honest speech remembering Alec Salmond from his good friend , conservative David Davis , while listening to the false hypocritical speech of the snp Pete wishart on Alec was enough to make most people puke.

The newspapers tell us today that Alex Salmond died whilst opening a bottle of ketchup. I see kenny farquharsons hatchet job on Salmond has been widely mocked , and comments from Jolyon Maugham of the good law project , laughed at where Maugham is described as a relentlessly revolting prick. Mean while former disgraced labour minister Dennis mcshane was being ridiculed for labelling Salmond an ethno nationalist on French tv.

If nothing else Salmond kept true to his cause and drove Scotland almost over the line that was independence, you can't knock him for trying . RIP Mr Salmond .

Scottish government organising private plane to repatriate Alex Salmond's body after request to use RAF rejected..... The former first minister and SNP leader collapsed and died after delivering a speech on Scottish independence in North Macedonia on Saturday. The UK and Scottish governments had been in talks about the return of Mr Salmond's body. The Scottish government is chartering a flight to repatriate Alex Salmond's body after the Foreign Office rejected requests for the RAF to get involved, Sky News understands. David Davis, Conservative MP and close friend of Mr Salmond, had led calls for the armed forces to get involved. A source close to the process told Sky News the Scottish government had opted to charter a private aircraft, which is being paid for by a private citizen.

The newspapers tell us today that Alex Salmond died whilst opening a bottle of ketchup. He was always a bit saucy. Some people would relish in it.
