Slight digression - the new avatar Vin, is it a Chieftain? Challenger 2, one of the tanks we donated to Ukraine. Chieftain's were bloody good though. 120mm rifled cannon firing squashheads, APDS etc.
Chieftains would make mincemeat of Putin's shitty tanks.
Imagine 200 of these going into Belgorod:

Are you sure that's a Challenger Vin? Looks more like a late Chieftain to me, Mk 11 or 12 possibly.

That's a Chieftain, yes. But unfortunately Ukraine haven't been given Chieftains.
Hundreds of them are left. It wouldn't take much to restore them to fighting condition and their guns are more than a match for any tank Putin has left.
And the night vision on Chieftains is legendary.

Chieftains were defensive tanks, fairly slow and heavily armoured for the time, with a big gun. I've heard conflicting stories from tankies and although most of them liked Chieftain, a constant complaint was a lack of power. The L60 was the wrong pack but for economical reasons it was the governments pack of choice. I think this could come under the heading - slight digression.

Because of Blair, we no longer make tanks. He imagined that in the future we'd be part of an EU Military. He imagined we'd be using the same kit as the Germans. And they use the Leopard 2.

Leopards may be good tanks, but how many are battle ready? Very few. And we are the same, I cant remember how many tank regiments we had when I was 'in', there were many. I think the Royal tank Regiment which in my day had four battalions, has been reduced to one battalion, probably a one squadron battalion. And other cavalry regiments have been disbanded/amalgamated because tanks are expensive and an easy target for 'Strategic Defence Review' cost cutting.

To use tanks effectively you need air power otherwise tanks are vulnerable to planes.
UAVs also seem to be making tanks more vulnerable.
Being an island nation it makes more sense to prioritise planes and boats.
With peacekeeping duties I would expect us to team up with another nation that can provide tank armour.
I don't think we used tanks in Afghanistan, I guess because they were too vulnerable.

Being an island nation it makes more sense to prioritise planes and boats. I second this...
