If we were to carry ID cards and some illegal immigrant was stopped by the Police (unlikely) and his identity as an illegal was confirmed, what then? The labour policy would then be to issue him/her/it with an ID card no doubt.
Removing our freedoms to combat something that the Labour Party is determined not to address is pointless, but no doubt that is what will happen.

Immigration from The Commonwealth and British colonies began in the aftermath of the Second World War in large numbers, NOT during Tony Blairs premiership. MOST of the migrants who came during Blairs premiership were white and from Europe, and came here as a result of Freedom of Movement as agreed by the government of John Major. That is absolute nonsense. Post war immigration to the UK was a fraction of what it became during the early 2000's when against advice Blair litterally threw UK doors wide open and allowed millions to enter this country not only from western Europe but from the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. Blair was keen to accept millions from Europe including A8 countries because he was desperate to appease the EU in the hope of becoming the next unelected president of Europe. Thanks to Blairs ego the UK and in particular England has never experienced mass immigration on that scale, it changed entire communities and I think it's worth reminding you that at least two of Blairs ministers, David Blunkett and Jack Straw, later publicly apologised for it. Perhaps there is something that you do not understand or fully grasp ? Freedom Of Movement was agreed by John Major and his government ( a Conservative government ) the names on the dotted lines upon the treaty are those of Conservative politicians. Freedom Of Movement is a Tory baby, not a Labour one If you would like to blame a particular Prime Minister, a particular government or a particular political party, then point the finger at John Major, the government of John Major and the Conservatives, it was THEY who opened up the doors to unlimited numbers of migrant workers from Europe ( a policy which I had, and still have no problem with ). |

And it was Blair who gave A8 countries unfettered access to the UK, not the Tories. |
