Regarding Rugby, if Vinny got his way the Six Nations would be reduced to the Three Nations. The Six Nations competition would cease to be. I'd replace it with a European competition in Rugby for the highest scoring national teams and with that, the Germans, the Swiss, the Spanish etc would be able to compete to qualify take part with in an elite competition comparable to the Euros in Football. And Team UK would have to earn its place, rather than get automatic qualification.
That would drive up standards, improve competition and provide better entertainment on television.

The Scottish are going to delight in England's failure. After watching that, the Jocks won't have long before rubbing it back into the English. Brace yourself for the Jock onslaught of inevitable English failure.

A British team and an England team would be virtually the same 11 players, all you'd have achieved would be preventing Scottish, Welsh, and Northern Irish players playing International football, which they can do at present. Hence why the Scottish, Welsh and Irish FA's wouldn't entertain such an idea, and nor would their regional Governments. Blame organisations such as UEFA and FIFA for expanding the final stages of tournaments to enable nations that never could, or no longer can, in the case of Scotland, play football to a decent standard. One common top tier football league for the whole UK, and players selected from it by how good they are. Sure, the likes of Celtic, Rangers, Hibs etc would have to up their game, but the only obstacle to Scots being on the national team would be their own ability. That would encourage them to do better, instead of giving less able players "positive discrimination" for being Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish. Back in the day, Ryan Giggs was one of the top Welsh players and he was good. Have the best players from Great Britain and Northern Ireland all in one team selected by their merits and we might actually win an international competition. No other country in the world fields four teams, it's time we modernised. Yeah, but come on Why deny ourselves the fun of the old joke ‘An Englishman a Welshman and an Irishman walk into a bar… There would have bren s scotsman too had the score last week been a bit less”

And now it's over. Scotland are out and England aren't (yet at least).

I fear England won't do much better tbh.
It's the sad state of British football, not enough teams invest in academies and train up future stars, because there's great international tried and tested talent out there.
But a non Scot cannot play for Scotland and a non English player can't play for England despite playing in the respective leagues. This translates into less choice of players for the international competitions despite making normal matches extremely good to watch.

This translates into less choice of players for the international competitions despite making normal matches extremely good to watch. That is why it is called International competition. It is nothing new. Players have always followed the money. Denis Law, for instance, went to Torino, and then to Manchester United. Both moves were for record fees. Law, like many other Scots, never played for a Scottish team. Unlike Law, playing abroad was not common, most Scots, who were to leave the country for foreign climes, went to English clubs. Others who did follow Law's example included Souness (Sampdoria), Archibald (Barcelona), Jordan (AC Milan). The fact that players will play for their country transcends which country they play in. For years now non Scots, or non any Nationality for that matter, ARE able to play for the country of a parent, or Grandparent: Lyndon Dykes was born in Australia, Shaun Maloney in Malaysia

England is not abroad. England is part of the same sovereign country Scotland is part of.
A UK league would improve competition.
And a UK squad in the Euros and the World Cup would be a good thing too. It's absurd for one country to have four teams and all of them are shit including England. We need to sort that out.
