The article started by trashing Obama for avoiding a serious recession turning into a depression. The author appears to be a very leftist political idiot. No one knows the difficulties Starmer's father faced when starting up his business but judging from the information available like him working on the shop floor and building his business up in a rented shed, it does look like he struggled at first. IMO having worked as a skilled engineer for around the first 30 years of my working life, my impression is that skilled people are not recognised or held in high esteem for the work they do. I retrained into a professional position and virtually tripled my income immediately, plus perks plus better working conditions plus being treated with respect. Yes as I said it was the view from a Corbynite ,leftist political and idiot go together as well as ducks and water . We don't know of the Starmer family early years and without Sir Kier coming clean we will probably never know . What I do know though is that his family home when he was a kid was in Woldingham which is a stones throw from me . Its where the rich people live . The local residents association even tried vetting prospective house buyers in the village a few years back with regard to their 'suitability' as neighbours , the snobs think they are on a private estate with bells on . The village has so many covenants on it houses its virtually impossible to put a shed up in your own garden without the say so of the residents association . His Grandfather also lived in one of the biggest houses in the area ,Marden Park where he worked as a gamekeeper . Now though that doesn't exactly prove anything it doesn't paint a picture of poverty and a family struggling because my 'my father was a toolmaker' . Your other point .Trades people (50 years on the tools myself) and skilled workers are not recognised or paid their worth as they should be but Im not sure 'held in high esteem' or treated with respect follows that. Being able to mix with all sections of society and treating others as you would like to be treated yourself is in my experience how most people think or at least behave , even in Woldingham . I think it would be fair to say although the Starmers were probably not rubbing shoulders with the captain of the local golf club they were not walking around with the arse hanging out of their pants either . Hard-left politicians and idiot might go together, just as Hard-right politicians and idiot go together. One can still be referred to as a "kid" at ten years of age. Age at house moves would be relevant to the point being made. IIRC the Starmer's made three house moves. His father rented a shed. Don't know where. My reference to skilled workers being treated with respect was in answer to a comment in the Website that was offered.

That is just a total nasty lie, typical of what decent people have to put up with from Rightists. As witnessed in Trump-land and fascist Nazi Germany. Lies, insinuated lies, insults, denigration and so on all of which come naturally from the Rightist mind. LOL, hilarious. But true.

Now you are getting repetitive and boring, no fun any more As I implied earlier, I'm not here to be denigrated by Rightists. Earned or not, you may have been given a lot of respect in your last job, on here you are just a Right-wing fool.

Thatcher, and all those Rightists who follow her hard line politics. Thousands of small businesses destroyed. People out of work almost hit 4Million. 3million children pushed into relative poverty which meant probably a million families living in relative poverty. Around a million people denied dole money because the government didn't recognise them as unemployed (just people with no job) because there were no jobs for them to apply for. Many Privatizations in order to secure 'money now' to support the extreme moves of the hard right Conservative government. Privatizations that are still costing the economy millions of pounds today. Two huge economic black holes where the NHS and state education used to be. Thatcher encouraged Private Health and forced some to go private in order to relieve their pain, whether they could afford it or not.

Tony Blair today welcomed 11 private healthcare providers into the "NHS family", as he promised them the chance to gain a stronger foothold in the NHS.
Predicting that the private sector would soon provide up to 40% of NHS operations, Mr Blair said the independent providers could help drive up the quality of service to patients which he said was the "most important thing".
"By 2008 we could have as much as 40% of acute operations done in the private sector being done under the NHS banner," he told health bosses.

I am in agreement, it is privatisation that is to be feared. I was aware that Blair wanted to designate one particular form of surgery to the private sector. I fully agree with the idea providing it is regulated and done at an acceptable cost. It is a fact that something new has to happen to the NHS because it is so large and so costly. What I am 100% against is the selling off of the NHS leading to a two tier health system where those who can afford it get the best treatment, while the rest get a second rate unreliable system.

Thatcher was centre right, and I have every confidence this is going to come as something of a shock so brace yerself; There has never been a hard right-wing government in the UK, and anyone who thinks otherwise should be on Gumtree with the kids.
