It's all a con job, I've noticed the run up to Christmas how expensive Currys and Argos are, they've actually put the prices up, then they do their Black Friday deals, and put them down to the prices they were originally, I don't buy anything that is in a black Friday deal.

Of course it's crap
It's a way of piling bids into one day - a version of 'get 'em before they go' or 'while stocks last'

I agree, when you go to some shops or online they more often than not put 'only one left' or two, pressuring you in to buying it there and then, I tried it in Argos, I bought a Air Fryer, said two left in stock, I bought it, then on the way out tried it again, it still said two left in stock, con job t is.

I got a £850 rrp monitor for £348. It only went this low for around 10 hours, then they ramp the prices right up as stock clears. Can be useful: www.hotukdeals.com/

Well you probably do get the odd one or two good deals, but they are few and far between, I stay clear of anything that says black Friday deals, but they've got people hooked, it's a American thing.

True, and a lot of the time you can find offers cheaper the rest of the year, but the really good deals do exist and go pretty fast, especially online.

The best time is the end of January. Try doing a search for 70% off. I've managed to get some top quality stuff for pittance doing it this way. Out of all the sales items only a few will not sell in one month, so they offer these at high reductions.

Of course it's crap It's a way of piling bids into one day - a version of 'get 'em before they go' or 'while stocks last' It's another angle on 'fools and their money are soon parted' It's basically a publicity stunt in most cases offering prices you could get anyway. So Mrs K and I went shopping yesterday on 'no colour assigned Thursday' evening and guess what, got all the same discounted prices in a wonderfully somewhat empty Bluewater.

The typical markup on clothes is 400%.

The typical markup on clothes is 400%. So? Gross margin is not the same thing as net margin.

Not many things are genuine these days Red, seems like everyone is out to make money, usually it's those with the least that get stung the most, these shops are going to be stuck with a lot of unsold stock if they don't genuinely reduce prices before Christmas.

I'm not one for the sales myself, but in previous years I have noticed that the best deals are to be had after Christmas. I bought a BBQ from Argos £200, I was waiting for delivery and the bloody thing was reduced to £100, it was such a saving I had to ring Argos and tell them I'd send the BBQ back if I didn't get a refund of £100, and I'd just reorder it, which I said would be silly, fair play they refunded me £100 discount.
