Overall, net migration continued to add to the UK population in the YE June 2022, with an estimated 504,000 more people arriving long-term to the UK than departing.➡️ t.co/mqFW1II3JQ pic.twitter.com/j8HCVzmkZw— Office for National Statistics (ONS) (@ons) November 24, 2022By contrast, 560,000 people are estimated to have migrated from the UK in the same period, almost half of them – 275,000 – going back to the EU.The imbalance means that, while far more non-EU nationals are likely to have arrived in the UK than left during these 12 months, the reverse is true for EU nationals, with more leaving than arriving.
-high We blamed covid and the Ukraine war on everything from inflation to slow growth economy. Now its to blame for the high immigration this year with 700, 000 coming this year From outside the EU. Don't get me wrong im a strong supporter of immigration I just like rubbing the rights nose in it

The blame lies squarely with the government and those who supported the government in their actions.

Don't get me wrong im a strong supporter of immigration I just like rubbing the rights nose in it It's total idiots like you that are destroying this country. That level of immigration is like adding the population of Birmingham to the country every 2 years. Where exactly do you think they're going to live? Where's the infrastructure - schools, doctors, housing etc etc- to support that level of population increase? It's not just the "rights" (sic) whose "nose is rubbed in it". It makes everyone poorer and it damages the country. And you'll be the one bleating when your benefits get cut.

We can control our borders in normal times, what we can't control is other nations borders that means these alleged Asylum seekers and Economic Migrants enter other nations at will then some of them make their way to the North Coast of France, Belgium, then enter our waters and land on our shores, by then legally we can do very little about it that same other countries right across the EU.
It is not just us that has this problem

'The 40,000' are not included in the net migration figures. They're not considered to be migrants.

The confusion that Handyman shows here is pretty indicative though of how the Government uses asylum seekers as useful bogeymen to deflect attention from people's concerns about the vastly bigger immigration numbers. Meanwhile no one seems to care about the (in all likelihood) much larger number of illegal immigrants - mostly visa overstayers. It is no coincidence that politicians are now deliberately describing asylum seekers incorrectly as "illegal immigrants" blurring the distinction in the minds of the populace.

That's of course totally neglecting the net population change when no immigration and no emigration take place.

Well in a way they did ask us and have been asking us for 60 years. They asked us to vote for them, and it is nearly always any them, when they have proud policies of controlling immigration with points based systems, down to tens of thousands, only those we need, end chain migration etc etc ad infinitum. The thing is that is exactly what we voted for time and time again.

Headline figures can be misleading. I believe a significant proportion of these figures are students returning for the first normal academic year since Covid and another large cohort rightly or wrongly were Ukrainian.
It’s hRd to get a clear picture of the underlying picture.
