I disagree. I think there will be a lot of deaths, but in the long term it will be for the better. Well it’s fine to disagree but look at the US gun death rate where firearm possession is so lax. besides legally held firearms in America it is estimated there are at least 250 million illegally held firearms in America , the most common weapon used to kill in the UK is a kitchen knife

Having watched the video he is tasered twice by an Officer off screen , and a another woman officer walks straight at him and tasers him which puts him down, within a few seconds armed Police arrive, given that the Met does not have enough armed officers it appears by luck they were not far away, No need to even draw their firearms he was all already incapacitated and disarmed, as for shouting at residents to get back indoors, quite right last thing Police want is more targets for him, What we don't know yet is the sequence in which the two officers got hurt, were they the ones using tasers or doing something else?

Lots of places have high gun ownership and low murder rates, lots of places have high murder rates and strict gun controls. If you discount the 'urban segment', the usa has quite a reasonable murder rate.

I have just read that Police arrived on scene 12 minuets after the 999 call, the suspect was first sprayed but that did not have any real effect on him, two Officers were badly injured , the female Officer has had lengthy complicated surgery to put her arm back together, an Inspector had major surgery to severe wound to his wrist, I have no idea when he was tasered other than to say he was tasered at least three times , my best guess is he was tasered by other Officers who arrived after the two officers were injured, not all Officers have tasers as far as I am aware I believe its personal choice if an Officer wants one or not

A 36-year-old man has been charged with murder after a 14-year-old boy was killed in a sword rampage in east London.
Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, of Newham, has also been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary and possession of a bladed article, the Metropolitan Police said.
The dual Spanish-Brazilian national will appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

They will need to think on this as it could easily happen again.

And the murder rate will rocket. I disagree. I think there will be a lot of deaths, but in the long term it will be for the better. I have no sympathy if they were actually burglars link but I still believe an almost universal right to own a firearm will cause more deaths than it saves.

There might be an opportunity for the law abiding to reduce the population of the others. I'm not sure if that has happened in America. Those tasers certainly do an excellent job. They can be lethal as they can stop the heart. However they are an alternative to a bullet, which many police officers prefer not to carry. Whilst police officers get charged with murder/manslaughter for carrying out their duties, this is no surprise. In Britain we seem to have the criminal/authorities balance all wrong.

The UK needs a 'second amendment'. It would not be in the same form as the us law, but would allow any non convicted UK citizen above the age of 25 to posses and carry a firearm. The penalty for a carrying a non licensed firearm should be raised to the death penalty. And the murder rate will rocket. Why will it? In the USA now teachers are being trained to shoot and allowed to carry a legally held firearm whilst working.....

Responsible gun ownership and clubs as we have here is fine, you allow as Orac proposed those over a certain age and without a criminal record firearms then it will because there are too many irresponsible people about. Having no criminal record does not automatically equal a responsible person, look around at how people are these days and thefts of of guns will go up peoples kids will get hold of them with disastrous results. And ok the data is a few years old but it’s the only one I could find that directly links the two countries. gun-control-network.org/press/us-uk-comparative-data

An advanced civilisation wins through co-ordination. It sets up a barrier, so it doesn't have to have struggle for dominance with fights at its own bus stops. The left have been very careful to make sure that these advantages are disabled, so ciivilisation has its hands tied behind its back as the barbarians are poured in. It's quite likely barbarianism will win if this pattern continues.

Okay - so can we have an enforced border so we don't need to personally defend ourselves against deranged and hostile barbarians? Can we just remove these people? Can the police a special services be used to extinguish with prejudice the various criminal syndicates, who have now installed themselves in our territory, and are attached to these people's 'culture'? Nope? This is what i mean by tying civilisation's hands behind its back
