I've already posted that I know nothing about The National Conservatism Conference in Brussels. But I am familiar with life and some nasty political outfits in Belgium. And face it, Braverman and Farage wouldn't be the first politicians to be duped into attending suspect events, if that's what's happened. Or maybe it was someone's idea of a joke to alert the authorities to an imaginary threat — we might learn more sometime...
FFS Pat, no one knew anything about The National Conservatism Conference in Brussels until some minor official decided to ban free speech. And given Belgium is almost an Islamic enclave I'm not in the least surprised they have far right groups. But we're not talking about some far right group are we. We are talking about a Conservative conference in which ex and current Conservative politicians as well as members of the European parliament were taking part. This is being widely seen as the suppression of free speech by authoritarian left wing autocrats who in spite of the Belgian constitution that supposedly guarantees the right of assembly and free speech, have banned opposing opinions. More evidence if more were necessary of the similarities between the EU and Russia. Belgium is almost an Islamic enclave? Are you serious?
Have you actual figures — rather than the rantings of a Belgian Tommy Robinson — to show that Belgium has a significantly greater %age of Muslims than say Austria, Germany, or the UK...?

When I said Islamic enclave I was obviously talking tongue in cheek, I think you probably know that. But having just had a shufty, Belgium does have a large Muslim population. Of a population of 10 million more than half a million c5.5% are Muslim. In Brussels, the home of the EU, that rises to 20%. Of course these are official figs, who knows what the actual figs might be.

Due to the deepening row this has caused, Belgian prime minister Alexander De Croo has criticised the decision to ban the Conservative conference in Brussels. He described it as 'extremely disturbing'.

Most absurd response to a conference since the IRA responded to the Tories annual conference in 1984.

I know nothing about The National Conservatism Conference in Brussels — apart from what's posted on here. But having spent a year working in Belgium, I found out that the country has some violent Far Right groups (info on which is easily accessible online). So I'm inclined to accept the conclusions of the local authorities if they feel there's danger of violence, though their reactions might be judged OTT from here... Of course. Right wing terrorists are whom we should be really worried about. Not. www.protectuk.police.uk/threat-risk/threat-analysis/threat-islamist-terrorism

Earlier this afternoon Wes Streeting and Jonathon Ashworth who are both on Labour's front bench and will soon probably be government ministers, said the Belgian police were right to close down a Conservative conference in Brussels. Streeting described it as a 'far right' meeting, and Ashworth said they were 'unsavory' characters.
This should send a chill down the spine of anyone who votes Labour. Have Streeting and Ashworth let the cat out of the bag?
And given the fact that the Belgian prime minister has now publicly criticised local authorities closing down the conference, I wonder if Streeting and Ashworth regret their stupid comments.

Well not really - the New Labour project has been intolerant of criticism from the start, just remember Walter Wolfgang.

To be honest after I hit the send button I looked at my post and very nearly altered it to read: 'anyone who cherishes free speech' rather than, 'anyone who votes Labour'. Hey ho.

I wonder if Mr Kir will be shutting down other organisations in his city that hold ant-gay and anti-abortion views?

He shouted "Rubbish" at Jack Straw, next he was arrested using anti terrorism legislation!

It's nice to look back in time knowing that I made the right decision by supporting independence from these tyrants. Sure, our own government is corrupt, but at least we stand a fighting chance. It's a matter of doing the right thing.

Are you seriously suggesting this conference who's speakers included many conservative politicians including Suella Braverman, was far right? The police said the order signed by this minor official, cited 'public safety'. T his is after other venues were pressured not to host the conference. Btw, did you see the street outside the venue? No protestors no demonstrators no crowds, in fact, no people. Which I'm sure was disappointing for the minor official who signed the order, and embarrassing for the riot police who arrived complete with helmets shields and batons, to an empty street. Is this free speech EU style? Edit: Just been reported that members of the European Parliament were also at this conference, that some minor socialist official described as a 'far right' meeting that endangered public safety. I've already posted that I know nothing about The National Conservatism Conference in Brussels.

Stop trying to defend the indefensible.
