Great news. Ruling due in Muslim student’s High Court challenge against school ‘prayer ban’A high-achieving north London school, previously dubbed Britain’s strictest, is set to discover whether a Muslim student has won a challenge against its ban on “prayer rituals”. The pupil, who cannot be named, took legal action against Michaela Community School in Brent, claiming the policy was discriminatory and “uniquely” affects her faith due to its ritualised nature. She alleged that the school’s stance on prayer – one of the five pillars of Islam – was “the kind of discrimination which makes religious minorities feel alienated from society”, a judge was told. The case against the free school was heard at the High Court in London in January. In a rare example of common sense the court has just ruled in favour of the school. The judge said the Muslim parents knew the rules before they placed their daughter in the school, he also said the Muslim student should have been suspended for being rude to her non-Muslim teachers. |

Had this Muslim family won, the implications are that every school in the country would have to provide prayer rooms for Muslims who could pray at any time of their choosing. GB News has just interviewed a Muslim cleric (a doctor of some description) who agreed with the courts decision. He said although Muslims should pray five times a day Muslim kids do not have to pray in school time. He said in many Islamic countries around the world Muslim children do not pray in school time. |

That would seem to be the correct outcome.
People should be free to believe whatever mumbo-jumbo they like but it shouldn't be down to the rest of us to facilitate it.

In her first chapter she talks of the surreal situation she found herself in having been the last person to hold a formal audience with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The next chapter starts with her time as an Education Minister in David Cameron's government. The problems caused by this parent are a shining example of the problems she describes being confounded over by all levels within the educational establishment I applaud this decision for the same reason it would be upheld without queston in France. This is not a religious school and demands that religious rites be recognised within it destroy its secular nature. If this woman feels that this is an affront to her religion then too fucking bad |

Current law requires all state-funded schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to hold daily acts of ‘Collective Worship’. In England and Wales in schools with no formal religious character this worship must be ‘wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian character’. In Northern Ireland the requirement is for ‘undenominational’ collective worship.
Other schools can choose their own regimes.
Until the UK disestablishes the Church of England and becomes truly secular, different factions in many areas of daily life will continue to feel wronged and discriminated against…

You can bet if Labour do get in after a year or so they will seek to overturn this.
I have a friend working for a Catholic school in inner London and they were forced to allow Muslims and Muslim teachers.

If it's a state-funded school, there should be no discrimination against any lawful religion or none.
The problem lies with the UK having an established church.
Personally. I'd opt for all religious instruction and worship to be banned from all schools. But I don't see anything against warts-and-all religious education in context.
Let parents and religious organisations arrange instruction and worship away from school if it's so important...

I can see how mainly rightwing politicians fall all over themselves to appear religious, but what gives you the impression that it's difficult to prosper in other careers without linking to Christianity or Judaism? |

As I mentioned up the page, according to some Islamic cleric (Described as a doctor) who was interviewed on GB News earlier, in many 'Islamic' countries Muslim kids do not pray at school. So why on earth should they do it in this non-Islamic country? |
