www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cxx8wpgnk78oThe property developers who burned down and then demolished England’s wonkiest pub are trying to get out of their legal requirement to put it back as it was brick by brick Complaining that the pub they destroyed hoping to make millions by redeveloping the land cannot be viable at its current location, they are now trying to slide out of their enforcement notice by suggesting they build it elsewhere, thereby achieving their aim of making tbeir fortune by redeveloping the land It was a court decision that they put the pub brick by brick right where it was I think they should have a squad of riot police bust them tomorrow for contempt of court and they be detained in a cell until the oub is rebuilt according to the courts original requirement snd tvst their assets be seized and liquidated to pay for such Either burning down a pub to attempt to evade a listed building order is a crime, or it is not. You cant have half and half

There seem to be a lot of arson attacks on churches and historic buildings and pubs … attacks on the foundations of our Culture. Neglect by Councils to protect buildings that should be listed . … here is another one local to the Crooked House that went up in flames. cdn-www.expressandstar.mna.arcpublishing.com/news/local-hubs/wolverhampton/2023/10/13/arrest-made-over-bilston-pub-fire/… no mention of the identity of the man arrested …. and Comments have been shut down on this story …. … probably because some locals say the landlord got it torched to try recoup his losses … the BBC claims otherwise … who knows who’s the villains here? … all I can say is the Authorities do little to stop the destruction of our Culture … and support smaller entertainment businesses. … failure to support key pubs that play live music is my main beef. The Trumpet in Bilston got badly robbed of key gear to assist visiting musicians the other month … Was there any help from West Midlands Entertainment Groups that swim in grant money… ?? … the big fish grab it all … especially if they play the ‘diversity/racist’ card. Religion has always attacked the pub trade … but now the attacks are more open and obvious. Killjoy Religious Groups deserve all the online criticism they get these days. … Give ‘em Hell!

I think the pub will be rebuilt and these bastard are just going to have larger legal bills to pay on top. It is the rule and they knew the rule. It's just they are cheeky bastards.

The pub was a curiosity, mostly because of the wonky walls, owing to it being built on land which was undermined by a colliery. What architect in his right mind is going to produce plans for a house which was defective due to subsidence?
Although I agree that the pub should be rebuilt, I don't think it is likely. It's not contempt of court, as far as I know it is failing to comply with an open ended order from a planning council.
The building was not listed.
If the council really want the pub rebuilding where it was, I think they will have to get it done and then bill the current landowners.

The idea is it is a deterrent and the case law is quite clear on this if you read a few examples. If you have not built according to the plans submitted you have two options. You either knock it down or modify it so it fits the plans. Some cheeky bastard over this way tried to build 4ft higher than the plans and it was off with their head. They let one get away with it then they have to let all. Being professional developers, they would have known the consequences. Resistance is futile. It will just land you in more and more trouble.

Looks a bit grubby to be honest.
I know that it was part of our cultural heritage, that the rich tapestry of our way of life should be preserved at all cost and I am sure that it sold a lovely drop of vegan beer, but how many people were using the pub before it accidentality burst into flames ?
