Cody Fisher was stabbed to death in a Birmingham nightclub on 26 December 2022. His killers, Remi Gordon and Kami Carpenter were this morning sentenced to life with a minimum of 26 and 25 years respectively, which means although they committed premeditated cold blooded murder, they will both be in their 40's when released from a supposedly 'life' sentence. www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/cody-fisher-sentencing-live-two-28955060Seems to me that life is pretty cheap these days.

Its not long enough but the 25/26 years is the minimum they will serve in prison before being considered for parole .They may well serve longer and will be on licence for the rest of their lives . For those interested in such the sentence of 25 years does seem to fall within the guidelines though www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2020/17/schedule/21/enacted

Charge us £60k per year per thug when a £9.99 bit of nylon rope from B&Q provides a permanent solution.

I think we all have ideas that wouldn't end well for the murderers but if its down to a matter of cost why bother with buying rope ? Just have a trap door with a 100 ft drop

They got life as this was premeditated they met with others to get a knife and they all attacked him and then one stabbed or shanked him as they say.
All over an innocent bumping into each other.

But right now we have none of those thongs, and so what you suggest will just lead to innocent people being killed for crimes they very likely did not commit. All The Best

All The Best I think you have a rather low opinion of the Police force ,CPS and Judges and Juries if you think innocent people will be found guilty of Murder . The level of proof is such that innocent people being found guilty is minimal in a worst case scenario . If we were to bring back the death penalty I would imagine the degrees of murder would just shift into new sentencing brackets . From the sentencing guidelines the whole life terms and 30 years would become the death penalty (these scumbags would just about come in under the bar )

Guilford Four & Maguire Seven: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guildford_Four_and_Maguire_SevenBirmingham Six: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birmingham_SixAndrew Malkinson: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-66310919That's just off the top of my head. Then we have the Stephen Lawrence case where the police actively tried to hide the truth: www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/nov/14/senior-officer-in-stephen-lawrence-case-was-corrupt-met-document-claimsEven if we had none of tat evidence (and that really is only scratching the surface) the fundamental point remains this: If you have a penal system where the sentence for some crimes can mean the taking of a human life that system needs to be 100% perfect; otherwise we are sanctioning illegal state-sponsored murder (which is what a false conviction leading to the death penalty would be). I am not in principle opposed to the Death Penalty; in practice we need a much better trained, funded and accountable Penal System, including several layers of independent, 100% access, oversight. Who is going to pay for all that? All The Best

The thing is Bancroft, everyone knows a 'life' sentence never, or very rarely means life. A life sentence with a proviso that a 20 year old killer should serve 20 to 30 years is not by any stretch of the imagination life. The judge should not, in my opinion, say he is sentencing a killer to life in prison unless he means life. It just makes the system look weak when a supposed life sentence turns out to be 20 years. Christ the train robbers didn't get life sentences, but they did get 30 years for stealing cash. These days murderers get life, and in many cases are released after as little as 20 years. And some people say we are not soft on crime.

Crimes against wealth will always carry higher tariffs than crimes against the person, especially where that person is not one of the wealthy elite. The only crime where the "value" of a thing should have major significance is, IMO, Criminal Damage. All The Best
