Chrissakes? if that’s ok would you contemplate using similar with the prophets name,if not why? Shouldnt a religious studies teacher discuss contemporary events? I’m not au fait with “the prophet” so I’m happy not to put myself (or any charges I may be responsible for) in the firing line. It’s an easy decision. Or another diversion,so what you’re saying is you’re au fait enough to use such words and not bother about any Christian’s sensibilities and then go on to say not with the prophet and thereby Islam but consider yourself knowledgeable enough to pass judgement on a religious studies teacher……..really?

Are you saying it was the teacher's fault, Pat? My opinion is that the teacher made a mistake that shouldn’t have been made — a bit like thinking he could pull out of the side road in front of an oncoming 20 ton truck. Both scenarios have consequences… So you think girls that wear ‘ inappropriate’ clothing and / or drink too much alcohol are responsible for being sexually attacked ?

What anti Christian rhetoric or teaching material has caused violence, or even threats of violence, in Britain in the 21st century? If it had, any teacher using it in an environment that was likely to inflame emotions should be sanctioned — lightly or heavily, depending on the circumstances. Frankly, I consider religious studies less useful than ancient history, and any practitioners as useful as homeopathy advocates. But I wouldn’t depict, deride or criticise any current religious beliefs in a teaching situation, because I am aware of the possible consequences…

This is allegedly a liberal democracy but only for some is what you’re saying.

wapentake It was the epitome of illegitimacy if your audience is a class full of Muslims. This Nutter, after taking actions that as an RE Teacher he must have been cast iron certain were guaranteed to offend ..... must surely have realised that coming up with a pitiful 'no intent to offend' excuse just wouldn't cut it. Anyway he learnt where he could stick his 'legitimacy' when he was packing up and moving house. I imagine it's a pretty sure bet he'll never be let loose in a classroom again. If it's any consolation to him, I'm sure those who ran him out of town had no intention to offend either .... after all what's a good enough excuse for the goose is a good enough excuse for the gander

Why would I necessarily think that…? Same principle. Only obliquely if the person has no regard for their own safety — even then it’s unlikely to be in their daytime employment in which they’re paid to be expected to be aware of their and their charges’ environment. You’ll have to dig harder to get any whataboutery from this…

You’ll have to dig harder to get any whataboutery from this… Dont cry Whataboutery . That has nothing to do with your assertion that it’s your own fault if you do something that is quite legal merely because it’s provokes an aggressor to do something illegal. What next ? It’s your fault if you leave your window open and are consequently burgled because you asked for it ?

Where are the Police?

wapentake Nope, I'm giving the Teacher the benefit of doubt on the numbers .... of course if the Muslim pupils were already outnumbered, his actions toward a minority would be all the more reprehensible.
Considering his youth, even now in his 20's it seems, it's a pity his gross stupidity has cost him dearly. And he'll have learnt the hard way that playing the 'no offence intended' card doesn't let you get away scot free every time. Actions have consequences, as he's now only too well aware.
