Email from Hackney Council:
We wish everyone celebrating the annual Jewish festival Purim a safe and happy festival! The streets around Stamford Hill will be busier than usual as residents and visitors celebrate from Saturday 23 March until Monday evening [25 March].
We encourage everyone to think about their safety and be considerate of others.
A word from...
Rabbi Herschel Gluck OBE
"A major theme on Purim is to engender unity and to bring joy and happiness to oneself and others. We are instructed that the greatest expression and fulfilment of the above duty is when it reaches especially the lonely and broken hearted, bringing a ray of light into their hearts, a smile to their face and a desire to dance in their feet.
I trust that we will all endeavour to ensure that our behaviour on Purim will be in this spirit. Wishing everyone in Hackney and beyond a truly happy and meaningful Purim!"
Purim is celebrated among Jews by: Exchanging gifts of food and drink, known as "mishloach manot". Donating charity to the poor, known as "mattanot la-evyonim". Eating a celebratory meal, known as "se'udat Purim".
Hackney will also have its Carnival again this year — it's good to see Hackney Council helping to get the borough together after the upheaval caused by the ex-Mayor lying about his association with a disgraced councillor...

Your link Hackney mayor resigns after photo with disgraced councillor. Did you see the fire? Yeah but the last bit of the email before that link talks specifically about said mayor pissing off. I’m not sure what tgat has to do with anything, but if being associated with disreputable scum is grounds for being sacked as mayor can we expect Saddo Khan to go next.
