John Napier of Merchiston, nicknamed Marvellous Merchiston, was a Scottish landowner known as a mathematician, physicist, and astronomer. He was the 8th Laird of Merchiston. His Latinized name was Ioannes Neper. John Napier is best known as the discoverer of logarithms. Napierian logarithms. Merchiston Castle in Edinburgh is where is where I got my degree. Does anyone use logarithms these days? Most researchers in the sciences.
With luck you can use it to covert wedges of lumpy data into straight line graphs, or something similar

Yes I used them when I "was in the sciences" but that was 65 years ago or more. I used to be able to work out the logarithm for a particular number but I'm damned if I can remember how.

I have. Engineering was my forte.
