The Indian Prime Minister is a "Hindu Nationalist", and even I know that a lot of Hindus in India detest the man, I know of Hindus here in the UK who detest him. India is a secular state with no official religion, and where all faiths are equal, but Modi wants to pursue policies which divide the people, and if he's not careful it could turn very nasty, and it would be Modi to blame if sectarian fighting breaks out. Polls show Modi as a clear winner in this year's elections ,it's not even a contest so I guess not as many people detest him as you think . It does not matter one bit how popular Modi is, any aspiring leader who bases their position upon religion and secterianism and not REAL politics for all the people is asking for trouble. There are 172 million Muslims in India, and if tensions overspill because of Modi's words or actions, then he would be to blame. As regards his main voter base, Modi is a right wing Populist, and it is the uneducated and mostly low income Hindus who are his grass roots voters, whereas the more educated Hindus generally do not support him. With regards to India's imports, mostly oil, petrolium products, minerals and coal, and as with most world trade, its largest trade partners are regional (Asian), with China been its biggest trade partner, just as our largest trade partner is THE EUROPEAN UNION.

Do you make it up as you go along ? Modi has based his government on building up Indian infrastructure and the next election on opportunity for youth . That he wants to include the Muslim regions in his ideas isn't sectarian ,its a liberal complete opposite . Nationalism in India isnt religious nationalism its territorial nationalism that was re-ignited during independence by Gandhi and later by Nehru . Their parties were loyally supported by the Muslims . So yes Modi is a right wing populist ,looks like the Indians are ahead of us on that score , its what the UK has been crying out for since the 1980's . And as for Indian trade partners its biggest is the USA something we have in common with them .
