It's buried in about 5ft of ground. How are you going to dig it out? It's not an easy job even for a robot to do.

A 500kg WW2 bomb was found in Plymouth, it is being moved so it can be safely detonated. I thought they would have taken the bomb to a safe place, placed it in a pre dug hole, sandbag it and carry out a controlled explosion, until I saw how big it was. Didn't realise it was 500kgs, that would certainly break a few windows.

They banned the explosions at sea a few years back because of the devastating effects it has on marine life.....The nearest land mass big enough to detonate that bomb would be Dartmoor but that would have meant an incredible long and dangerous journey..

The bomb squad risk assessment presumably concluded that the method used was the safest way. Obviously wouldn’t have been an option had it not been so close to the sea.
They used in anger the mobile phone warning system they tested a few months ago. Apparently worked quite well if initially a little alarming.
Interestingly quite upset some people awaiting asylum decisions (Plymouth handles quite a few). These people have fled war zones , now felt safe but then suddenly felt in danger again, not quite understanding what has going on. Very difficult emotionally for some. But in your world they are all economic migrant liars so perhaps they were just faking it.

If I heard right on the News they are taking out to sea to blow it up Being so close to the sea it was the safest option for such a big device I suppose. Had it been further inland they would probably have moved it to the closest safe area dug a pit covered it with sandbags and blown it up.

More than likely but even after all those years in the ground still one hell of a bang,

Only dappy could turn a thread about a WW2 bomb into a sob story about illegal migrants..
