A couple of passers by rescued a trapped driving instructor from 4ft of floodwater while emergency crews watched because they are only allowed to go in waist-high water. Just have a look at this - link - Firefighters lean on fence and watch a car fill with water because they're only 'wader' trained. Emergency services my arse. They are an absolute disgrace they should be ashamed of themselves.

I suspect that they might have been suspended or sacked if they went in and sued if it went wrong by the relatives of the victims . The whole system is crap and tilted against the brave and bold.

Can you imagine the public backlash and bad press the Fire Brigade would get for sacking a fireman who saved someone from drowning? Somehow I doubt the Fire Brigade are quite that stupid. Given the publicity this case is receiving I wouldn't mind betting those firemen now wish they had done the right thing after all.

If a fire..person did something that they were not trained for then yes….and if they did something that they were not trained for which went tits up resulting in a negative affect on the victim then I suspect they would probably be sacked and sued .

Bentley, ask yourself a question: Were the couple of passers by who rescued the driver 'trained'? There comes a point where common sense must prevail.

So they were not liable to be sued or sacked . Common sense has nothing to do with it .

I just don't know how someone from a service called 'Fire & Rescue' can lean against a fence and watch a car slowly sink with someone in it.

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest: "Trumpton" have been highly unionised for decades and yes, the Jobsworths would watch you drown.

Perhaps I'm not quite as cynical as you, or maybe I'm naive who knows, but I tend to think, I'd like to think that most firemen would do the right thing.

Bitter experience says otherwise, I'm afraid.

It’s happened and it happened for a reason .
