It doesn't as long as it's declared SORN.
(So it needs to be either fully road legal or SORN, you can't just park it off road and leave it at that).
Which seems a bit belt and braces and OTT in a country that’s so well covered and monitored by mobile and stationary cctv that the average amount of times a vehicle’s registration is captured on a single journey must be in double figures… The ANPR ( Automatic Number Plate Readers ) do pick up No Tax, or Insurance, or Vehicle involved in Crime etc, 24/7 but if there is no Police Car nearby they don't get stopped and dealt with
