Which is no justice at all, vulnerable people made targets whilst scrotes shoplift and get up to all sorts of trouble and escape any punishment at all. The M.P.’s who passed this in to law showing how out of touch they all are. link
(only one thing with this story how can you be prosecuted for not insuring a car that’s not on the road that’s tax and sorn surely, even so)

Totally agree. It's the same with traffic tickets issued (often wrongly) by local councils whereby the recipient is denied having their case held in an independent court.

Something in the report appears to be wrong IMHO why were the DVLA involved in his vehicle's insurance it as far as I am aware nothing to do with them, it is the Police who prosecute drivers who use an uninsured vehicle on the highway, and I have never heard of an offence of not renewing car insurance.
Plus the Media states he now has a Criminal Conviction, convicted yes in his absence but its not a recordable criminal offence

That's a new one on me, I am fully aware of SORN I was always under the impression that if off the road it no longer needs insurance MOT or Tax

It doesn't as long as it's declared SORN.
(So it needs to be either fully road legal or SORN, you can't just park it off road and leave it at that).

Which seems a bit belt and braces and OTT in a country that’s so well covered and monitored by mobile and stationary cctv that the average amount of times a vehicle’s registration is captured on a single journey must be in double figures…

I think with the amount of social media storm over this matter, there will be a resolution very shortly. I have learned something about SORN and insurance from this thread. I thought you needed nothing if a vehicle was parked on private land, but it does have to be declared. The innocent have to pay for the people who have been swindling the system

I think it was originally designed to stop people letting the their tax and insurance run out while leaving the vehicle parked on the road. Clearly, people who habitually drive with no insurance won't give a shit about that while the rest of us risk a fine if we forget to SORN that vehicle that we're genuinely not using on the road.

Indeed they don't give monkeys about driving with no insurance , or registering their vehicle with DVLA
