Mine went from £220 to £360 to be paid this month. More than 63% increase. I tried compare the meerkat and there was nothing better. Apparently several underwriters have left the car insurance market, leaving a hole which has resulted in the increase. It is true that the government will get a massive boost from IPT because of this. However, a 63% rise in any annual cost needs to be looked at by government, and urgently.

The ANPR Cameras take pictures of uninsured vehicles and untaxed vehicles or vehicles of interest , if Police stop you they can issue you with a fine of £300 plus 6 points on your licence, and in some cases may impound your vehicle which means you have to pay fees to get it back, in some cases it will be crushed . If taken to Court for No Insurance an Unlimited Fine and even Disqualified as well , which means when your ban is over it will greatly increase you Insurance, IMHO it works out cheaper to pay for Insurance in the long run Its quite common for people who live in London to get a relative out in the sticks to insure the car for a fraction of the cost . Just because the car is taxed doesn't mean the driver is insured or even legal which makes the cameras a bit of a waste of time . In fact the police rely far too much on the cameras and the chances of being stopped are virtually nil I think you will find that most police cars have the ability to see that the cars are taxed, insured and has a current MOT... I am sure Handyman will be able to enlighten us. I have a friend who was stopped a few minths ago as he was not wearing his spectacles whilst driving. He had a stern warning from the police to not let it happen again.

Martin Lewis suggests anyone seeking a quote do it in a particular order through the various comparison sites (and for the love of everything that is holy do it on a computer you don't care about being infected with tracking cookies because each successive search will then find out you have been to the others) because for a reason he cannot fathom but i can clearly see the searches cause the later sites to lower their price
Now to be fair HE doesn't know why it happens, but I can fairly easily work it out and i have in the brackets above
I confess i know some of the scams compare the fucking meercat and the opera singer and dame judy's secret service pull having worked for their agent, sorry software house, but this is a new one on me and i'm used to the depravity of the banking and insurance business it's how i make my living

That's what I'm saying Jonksy , the police can check all that you say they can and if everything is OK you won't be stopped , the most important thing though what they cannot check is who is driving . It's said one in five drivers in London are uninsured .

Just because the car is taxed doesn't mean the driver is insured or even legal which makes the cameras a bit of a waste of time . In fact the police rely far too much on the cameras and the chances of being stopped are virtually nil The Insurance Police and Courts are fully aware that some drivers do register their cars at relatives or friends in the rural arears to try and reduce the cost of Insurance and have been for years, if a driver does that and the Police or Insurance company suspect that has taken place they can and will investigate it. If the Police or Insurance Company who do employ self employed investigators and they find out the driver has deceived the them Fraud IMO the Insurance Company will not pay out, in serious accidents especially a fatal one the Police will investigate the crash in full, a quick Council Tax check will show if they do not live where the vehicle is registered or not. If the Police or Insurance Company investigate their first port of call is to the Registered keepers address, and they want to know who actually owns the vehicle and who drives it No Road Tax a minor matter usually dealt with by a FPN Fixed Penalty Notice issued by Police, or if DLA find an untaxed vehicle parked up on the public highway they will clamp it or even remove it. As for ANPR a great bit of kit it monitors lots of major roads across the UK and in our major cities and towns it not only picks up vehicles that are untaxed or uninsured vehicles, stolen vehicles, false plates, Police and other security services can and do put vehicles on it that are suspected of being used by Criminals, drug dealers, travelling burglars, etc, that is why many Police Vehicles are fitted with ANPR, that database is updated every day. According to the MIB Motor Insurance Bureau which all the Insurance Companies are members of , " It is estimated that there are around 1 million uninsured drivers in the UK. This amounts to around 4% of all motorists in the country are driving illegally. Whilst this is a shocking number of uninsured drivers, it is almost half of the figures seen in 2004. 1 million drivers uninsured every day in the UK Around 3,000 drivers caught per day 1.5 million cars caught and seized in the last 10 years These are the findings from the Motor Insurers Bureau scheme (MIB), the organisation that compensates those who have been involved in an accident with an uninsured driver. According to the MIB, the number of uninsured drivers has halved due to “a combination of enforcement, penalties and awareness campaigns.”

It's not just car insurance though, is it? there are the rising fuel costs, the rising vehicle tax, the cost of repairs through pothole damage etc, etc. Owning a car is being made impossible slowly but purposely.

IMHO they want as many private cars off the road as possible which would mean we have to use Public Transport more, which again IMHO that will mean they will raise the price of Public Transport to gain more revenue, which the Unions such the RMT and Aslef will want paying more and they strike yet again to get their way.

It's not just car insurance though, is it? there are the rising fuel costs, the rising vehicle tax, the cost of repairs through pothole damage etc, etc. Owning a car is being made impossible slowly but purposely. I saw this 20 years ago when I last moved. I had a choice in paying 20% less for a house in the country where it is a few miles drive to get to the shops, but even then I reasoned that I would be better off paying for a better more central location. My second bit of reasoning was that if I were within walking distance of places then I would be encouraged to walk, which when you use a car regularly is something people tend not to do. After a while i got fit as a bonus. The third point in my consideration was, well if you are going to walk, make sure the walking you do is in nice scenic areas so walking would be a pleasure. It turned out I got the perfect spot, away from noisy traffic with a lovely view of the countryside but within walking distance of about 5 supermarkets. The anti car thing was well spotted and turned out to get much worse in the last 20 years. Immigration was the other consideration. I realised anywhere near London, Bristol etc would likely kick off at some point. So for me all this was predicted 20 years ago and I find I'm sitting pretty. I do understand it is a nightmare for many though. One thing I learnt a long time back is don't take the advice of the sheep. They were all into their cars and boasting about what wonderful cars they have. Now they understand it is a method of cleaning you out of cash, one way or another. We live in the country controlled by fascists.
