They are dangerous since they deliberately mix pedestrian and cycle traffic.
When cycling, I refuse to use them: One minute you're cycling along, next second you've got half a bus load alighting in front of you.
It's a recipe for accidents that only an imbecile would have signed off on.
It's absurd that cycling on the pavement is an offence and yet this engineers the exact same situation with even worse results.
