Just wondering how many people on here donate to food banks.
Do you consider them unnecessary or a necessary evil?
Do you buy food and none-perishables particularly to donate.
Have you ever had to use one?
How about specifically for kids?
How about specifically for animals?
My wife and I buy food in the local supermarket, own brand, and give a couple of hours, when we can at the local food bank.
Just curious.
Whilst this is a political issue, I am not apportioning blame to any party, just curious how people feel.

Unfortunately mate many food banks are suffering because of shortage of donations because under the present economic climate people simply cant afford hardly to feed themselves never mind doate food.
I help out at my church foodbank every Saturday. Has well has food we hand out household products like toilet rolls and shampoo e.t.c.
And the church also handouts school uniform became there ridiculously over placed.
At least the government has recognised this by not making it mandatory schools don't have to have there badges on the uniform

I agree but I was wondering how and why people donate or if they don't.

Its a classic case of do-gooders and virtue signallers ending up being part of the problem rather than part of the solution. These types of initiatives act as a safety valve for the small minority retaining control over all the wealth and handing out crumbs to the masses that are trapped in a cycle of dependency to that minority. Desperation is the only thing that will see the masses rise up and overthrow the minority who have them enslaved. Stop alleviating that desperation, you are hurting the downtrodden. They need to see the only way to prosper is to help themselves.

Where I used to live there was a traveler who regularly sat outside the bank with his dog with a cap on the pavement. I always gave a tin of dog food.

The wife normally does the shopping, not because I am unwilling, but because she is a nightmare and only knows what she wants when she is there lol. I believe she drops the odd item into the collection baskets.
The problem I have with foodbanks, and certain charities is that they mask a problem that the government should be solving.
I would like a high tax, high spend society, which would have a better safety net, but the fine people of the UK are never going to vote for that.

I usually do the shopping as it costs me twice as much if the wife comes and takes 3 or 4 times as long. It is not the politics; I was just wondering about who and the what's.

I am one of those who is struggling financially but have never yet had to use a food bank.
I do often buy a couple of tins to drop in the food bank, usually shops own brand tins of sausages and beans or something like that. The cost is only pence.
I might need a food bank myself one day.

Whilst this is a political issue, I am not apportioning blame to any party, just curious how people feel. Each week when we go to town to do our weekly grocery shop we always make a point of donating to the foodbank. We don't visit a foodbank, there's a large basket in the supermarket for donated items. Last year we bought every selection box on display and put them all in the foodbank basket. I know it's not 'food' as such, but Christmas is for poor kids as well. No doubt we will do the same or similar this year, it's no great sacrifice.
