There are so many ugly scenes going on in the newspapers that anyone would have thought the country is a total tip. So what about the traditional England? Where is English classical culture preserved? I've been watching a video here of Hampstead, where a lady strolls though and takes a look. You'll notice the character is very much the English understated look to it. There's none of this flashy gaudy American 'hey look at me' stuff, trying to grab your attention and who is the biggest poser. The architecture seems to blend in with the nature around it, especially noticeable in the local church yard. it's on a human scale and it is eccentric in parts. The Englishman builds his house how he likes it, not to be dictated to by a style. For example the sea captain's roof resembles the deck of a ship.
Anyway, I have to commend the people of Hampstead for the great efforts they have put into preserving their area and keeping the bigwig town planners at bay. Indeed it reminds me a bit of parts of my own town, although not as rich as Hampstead, but still very individualistic. What can be said about my road and some of the nearby roads is no two houses are the same. I really do hope the English who live in these areas do all they can to preserve the quality and beauty of the area. Too many people these days just tarmac over their gardens and park all these cars in them. Also you didn't see one single piece of graffiti in that film.
