A London primary school has been forced to shut over "escalating threats against staff" after some parents were warned about their children wearing Palestinian flags and making political comments. Protesters gathered outside Barclay Primary School in Leyton on Thursday claiming Muslim students had been discriminated against and parents had been threatened with being reported to the Government's counter terrorism programme. The row began when some families were sent letters home after pupils allegedly arrived at a Children in Need day last month wearing Palestinian flags, badges and stickers - link Aggressive minority appeasing lefties and Muslims waving Palestinian flags and demanding the head teacher is sacked have forced a school to close, and not a copper in sight. Last week just 'one' person waved an Israeli flag in Trafalgar square and the police were on him like a rash. Two tier policing?..

Actually, the school closed early for Christmas, which will please both pupils and staff and do no harm because there are hardly any lessons in Christmas Week anyway.

Any mention of 'Prevent' in letters coming out from a Primary School sounds like an unwise move to me, and I can't imagine any recipient reacting with anything other than anger. I'd expect this school has permanently soured relations with many parents as well as several of its young pupils.
All too reminiscent of the Stasi and East Germany, and being recommended for a spell at a re-education camp.

It is not illegal in this country to display or wave either an Israeli flag or a Palestinian flag, and I have some doubts about the opening post which suggests that the police came down on someone for waving an Israeli flag.
However, a school is not an appropriate place for children to be making any kind of political statement, whether it be supportive of either Israel or the Palestinians.

Imagine for a moment... an Islamic school, with right wing/Jewish people protesting at the gates and demanding that teachers were sacked. Ridiculous I agree, the police would have arrested them in seconds.

Red Rackham You're 'avin a Christmas laugh aren't you Red ? . Why use our imagination when in the link you provided it's less than 10 seconds into the video before the big sign comes into view with 'As a Jew I implore Israel to Stop Now' ........ and it's still unclear that there were demands for teachers (specifically the Head Teacher according to the opening post) to be sacked ? I only ask because it's little over a week since another similar thread started off telling us that Renaissance Paintings featuring nudes, 'prompted complaints from Muslim parents', but this was accompanied by a link that stated that one solitary parent complained, and that was about his son being prevented from speaking in the debate, and no mention about having any grievance concerning the paintings. Journalism shocking in its one-sidedness in lavishly quoting the Secretary of the School Teachers Union of all people, and not a word seemingly sought from a child or parent. And now we have an action replay where we get chapter and verse from the Lion Academy Trust who run the Barclay Primary School, and not a peep from a student or a parent or anyone protesting outside the school to learn their side of the argument. I'm sure you feel as bad as me that these reports don't provide the fair and balanced account that you would have liked to provide us with, but that's mainstream Western journalism for you I suppose. The protest outside the Barclay Primary School, as featured in the Evening Standard video (with the sound up) appears to be solely focussed on support for the 8 year old pupil who was put into isolation at break and lunchtimes, not permitted to have homework, and who is currently precluded from attending School until a badge is removed from his overcoat. And in stark contrast to the School's recent blatant pro Ukraine stance in one conflict, whether this young kid, whose Mother is from Gaza, and has further relatives there, be they grandparents or cousins ..... before they get blown to kingdom come, is his wearing of a Palestine badge on his overcoat meriting of the treatment imposed by the school ? Red says that the 'row' kicked off on 'Children In Need Day', but the Standard is particularly sparing with the details. If only there were some further information available ..... ideally from a teacher at the School rather than parroting the Lion Academy Trust's statement .... ah yes, here's one: “The letter from management asserts that the accusations against the school are unfounded, but it neglects to address various concerns at the school.
“Notably, it doesn’t address the restriction on a Palestinian boy wearing his flag while others display theirs, his isolation during lunch and break times, and the prohibition of staff discussing Middle East issues in class.
“On Children In Need Day, students wore colours resembling the Palestinian flag in a display of solidarity for the humanitarian crisis. However, senior leadership staff entered classrooms with a seemingly investigative and intimidating demeanour.
“They singled out students, instructing them to go home and change if their attire related to Palestine. There’s a clear directive from management to report and suppress any expressions of solidarity with Palestine. In contrast, when Ukraine faced political issues, the school openly supported Ukraine and held informative assemblies.
“On Children In Need Day, another boy wearing a Moroccan football top with red and green colours was also removed from class, as the colours were deemed to bear a resemblance to the Palestinian flag. I spoke with the children in my class who were instructed by management to remove their flags or change their uniforms. Many of these children sought refuge in this country, and it’s disheartening for them to be told to remove symbols of their heritage.”

It's not good that yet another school has to close for the safety of the Staff who are being targeted by activists and parents wishing to bring politics/religious arguments into the school. The teacher from Batley is still in hiding after he was forced out by a similar mob - the Government/police need to clamp down on this hard.

Think of the lengths and the pettiness necessary to bother to target an 8 year old and take some political objection to his coat. And after that to have the nerve to complain if you're targeted in return.
As RR's link informs us: "There were no arrests or incidents of note. The protest was peacefully concluded."
So no justification to clamp down softly let alone hard, or turn ourselves into the sort of place that sends baton wielding Police in to beat the hell out of a Group of peaceful parents ....I didn't vote Brexit to see our Police behave the way thugs in uniform do on the continent. But in any case, if you've made the decision to target an 8 year old because the sleeve of his coat offends your political sensibilities ... then parents won't allow you to get away with it Scot free. If you dish it out in such circumstances, particularly to those so young, you need to be fully prepared to take it.

It's a Primary School - it doesn't need divisive politics brought in through the front gate.
If the parents of the child in question want to dress their offspring up like a Hamas terrorist or drape him in Palestinian flags that is their right, but only in their own time - a school is no place for that.

What are we comparing it with? gender confusion perhaps or net zero or climate change. It seems a fairly minor offence compared with the politics being introduced anyway.

Bring back school uniform, with no additions or modifications allowed. Skirts for girls, trousers for boys. No jewellery, earrings, ridiculous hairstyles. Just focus on learning the syllabus. No mobile phones in classes.

Blackiswhite That's a quite valid argument, even if it doesn't relate to this case where a child's coat is not classified as school uniform. Red Rackham told us at the outset that this all kicked off on Children In Need Day. A day when the School had specifically allowed the kids to wear what they liked. And it hardly needs to be mentioned that the 8 year old in question had his coat with the flag patch hung in the cloakroom, and neither he nor any other child (including the pupil ordered to go home and change out of a Bulgarian football shirt) were dressed as Hamas terrorists or draped in flags .... Palestinian or otherwise ....... I believe Mr.Trump would refer to any claims that they were, as being 'Fake News'.
