Back in the 60s/ 70s Southend had its own regional police . They had to be at least 6 ft tall. Southend sea front was rough , East Enders , Soldiers, pikeys etc and the seasonal mods and rockers punch ups . Sgt Gosling was notorious for beating up trouble makers , driving them out to Wallasey island ( about 7 miles out into the country ) , taking their shoe laces and leaving them there . Many a cockney was stranded in Wallasey and had to find their way home . It was a different world .

When I lived in Bristol in the 70s they had a novel way of dealing with teenage tearaways. A police sergeant would visit the family and suggest to the father that his son might like to train to be a policeman. I understand that nowadays police need to be of a higher educational standard so this no longer works. Police now need to understand all the complex woke jargon, etc. In the 60s I worked in a police training college ... at a large country house in Buckinghamshire ... as a groundsman. The trainers were brilliant actors who knew every trick criminals get up to. Senior, I'm loathe to disagree with you, but I'm afraid I must. Police today do not require higher educational standards than back in the 1970's. Quite the reverse. Today thanks to diversity quotas ethnicity is far more important than ability. My son, a bright white boy, applied to join the police and was told that all places for white entrants had been taken, he was invited to re-apply in two years. What we are seeing today is racism against white people but that's OK because today racism is only racism if its against black people. I have a famous quote for you... ..." I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character". The problem is, today young entitled and pampered people who have never had to fight for anything, are taught a very one sided view of history by a very left wing education system. Red, I've lived in this area for ever 20 years and in all that time I have never seen a "coloured" policeman. None of them do woke. anytime anyone goes spouting woke here they get told to shut up. Even the town council is anti-woke and will tell them to shut up.
