I was out with a South African acquaintance of mine when he, in full view of passers-by, peed down a kerbside drain. He claimed that in his country one is allowed to do this.

My brother, who's weak bladder is legendary, did similar when he was taking our mother to the hospital. He took a minor detour, pulled the car over to the right opened the door over the drain and peed in the drain from the car. I wasn't there at the time, but my mother wasn't impressed by his aim.

That's insane. He stopped in a layby to have a discreet pee, and a 'district enforcement officer' otherwise known as an officious jumped up jobsworth, issued him with an £88 littering charge that would go up to £2,500 if not paid within 14 days! What the hell is going on in this country? Why are we so compliant?

As far as why we are so compliant, I think its because we stopped caring about other people, so if it happens to someone else we take no action and if it happens to us no one else cares. How about this one. The Parish council sent out a survey in our village asking people if they wanted a blanket 20 mph speed limit. Only out of 4,600 people in the village only 120 got the survey and 100 of them said yes. Strange that as no one wants it. Now we are informed that because of "overwhelming support" its going ahead. We can attend a meeting to hear how its being put in, but we cannot object and anyone trying will be escorted from the hall.

Well we didn't get it and no one I know got it and the Parish council got dozens of letters asking why no one got it. There wasn't even anything about it on the village face book page. Its like when we were asked about the Cambridge guided bus. It was well known everyone wanted a light railway, so when the survey came there was a choice between. Wait for it..... Drum roll.... The Guided Bus or ..Nothing.

Democracy in action…..not Its like when they say they’re going to do something that might be unpopular, they have a consultation period which is nothing but window dressing they pretend they’re listening then wait a short time then do what they were always going to do.

That sounds to me like you should get organised and everyone should vociferously object. Left wing authoritarians tend to come down hard on dissent if it's just a few people, but if lots of angry people object they're more likely to have a re-think.

Most of our Parish council are old farts that vote Tory.

I thought everyone does it when they're caught short. Perhaps there should be more public toilets available. The French have toilets in all their rest stops. Why can't wee? In broken Britain where we pay more tax than ever before yet curiously all the things are taxes are supposed to be funding seem to have less than ever before, who is going to pay for setting all these roadside toilets up? And who is going to pay to maintain and regularly clean them? And there's the problem. Far cheaper is to just let people pee against the nearest wall or behind the, and not waste resources fining them for it nearest bush. Bigger question now that we are paying more tax then ever before for less than ever before, is where are all our pigging taxes going?

Gosh, I don't know what's worse, having homeless people set up camp inside public toilets à la San Francisco, or having the whole country smell like a toilet thanks to public urination.

What the hell is going on in this country? Why are we so compliant? For once I agree. But in the figures above are an even bigger problem. They will encourage victims to pay up rather than contest it through fear of a draconian level of fine, even if they have reasonable grounds for appeal. And those who are so cash strapped that they cannot afford the 88 quid are the very ones most likely to be saddled with 2.5k.....their resultant inability to pay that will result in them wasting everyone's time and money doing jail time, losing any job they might have had in the process, and probably stuck on welfare at our expense afterwards. How is any of this socially useful? The jobsworth twat should have been a bit more reasonable. But he is probably incentivised to issue fines by the cash-strapped authorities paying him to do so. He is only doing the job he is paid and incentivised to do, and if he fined less people he would probably lose his job for underperforming. The fault really lies higher up with those paying and incentivising him to do this.
