The Prime Minister of Barbados said the country is owed trillions by slave-owning nations, including the UK. Mia Mottley said Barbados was owed $4.9tn (£1.9tn) by slave-owning nations. Speaking at the London School of Economics’ International Inequalities Institute, she repeatedly praised King Charles’s apparent willingness to confront slavery. Mottley also noted that conversations over how this debt should be repaid would “be difficult and will take time." Mottley also met with Foreign Secretary David Cameron she said: "I’m not going to get into the details of our conversation but suffice to say I think the foreign secretary will take his lead from His Majesty." Mottley has been a prominent campaigner on the awareness of colonialism and its legacy since coming to power in 2018. She has been credited as a key voice for turning the call for reparations into a mainstream political issue. www.gbnews.com/news/barbados-reparations-demand-latest-ukThe UK is seen as an easy touch now, but with a politically left wing king, and the real possibility of left wing BLM supporting Starmer becoming prime minister, has there ever been a better time for other countries to demand reparations for slavery. I have one thing to say to Mottley, it starts with fuck, and ends with off. Nip it in the bud. Not very diplomatic but then, I'm not a diplomat.

Only those directly effected should be entitled to compensation, but they are all long long dead.

The UK tends to be pretty hard faced in these matters.
The government is desperately trying to cut the aid budget and if Big Ears wishes to send megabucks to Barbados then he will be told that no one has any objections to him putting his hand in his pocket, but that the public purse is out of bounds

I wonder how much the warlords will pay for rounding up their own people to put on the slave market

Assuming that Labour get in next year I think it's quite probable we will be seeing reparations paid before that Parliament ends - it's a typical sort of policy that enthuses Labour voters.

These historical repatriations are a nonsense . Barbados for example was initially developed and settled by indentured servants .Mostly from the UK . Do we owe these peoples ancestors 5 years money ? No of course we don't Slavery was a terrible thing no ifs or buts but those people are long gone , their ancestors benefiting as much as anyone else from the development of their islands that followed the end of the slave trade
Will the British government be sending Barbados a bill for protecting it for 500 years ,asking for money paid in aid and investment back ? They can't have it all ways ,independence comes with responsibility ,its time they grew up and became responsible and stopped acting like the victims who are long dead .

Exactly, and we all know if the 'leaders' got their hands on any of this £2 Trillion the alleged ancestors of these slaves wouldn't see a penny of it, however the leaders will be ordering new private jets, luxury yachts, building luxury Mansions, and living in the lap of luxury while none of the money will be accountable, bit like the SNP.

I think we could pay it but get our land back in return and help to send all the descendants to Africa so they can start again with their reparations.

I think we should cough up it’s only fair When the Romans/Italians compensate us they can have that. Indeed, and in addition to the Romans; the Vikings, Barbary Pirates and Ottoman Corsairs owe us as well. I mean if everyone is going to start demanding reparations we might as well jump on the bandwagon too.
